I make performance gearboxes for a living ,don't use the word cog anymore but if someone said it i'd assume they were talking about a gear :)

Surely no need to drill a hole Just poke it through the rust on the sunroof frame

I just did mine http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-tdi-timing-belt-done-160366.html Hole is a bugger to find there is no way you an see it,just have to feel for it, assuming engine still in place I found only way I could get to it is by lying across engine and feeling for wire to crank...

you need to decide is it worth the risk can't you get some sealing putty to mould round the leaking area ??

Also bought an 82 Vogue Rangie for £250 that needs "some restoring" according to this http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f20/hi-160058.html So now got 300tdi disco ,3.5 rangie and v6 freelander ,must be an oil baron :doh:

If you are happy with it then buy it ,you can buy any car and it can either run perfect or bugger up next day, but why would a Landrover garage give a car with an obvious fault / deviation from original spec a certificate stating it's in great mechanical condition ,or isn't a big lump of metal...

Just a thought ,wouldn't it have been better to check tyre costs ,mpg ,tax etc before buying ??? ;-)

I would risk the whhel bearing ,even if it just gets you back to the uk then it would save some hassle regarding breakdown ,i'd try to get some sort of written confirmation from Landrover Avignon about it being ok just to help with any warranty claims ,then take it back and demand the work being...

1998 XEDI owned 5 years 150000 miles. VCU and IRD replaved ( blew hole in ird) Cambelt tensioner failed . Drop links numerous times (lots of speed bumps round here) CV joints both sides. Sunroof still needs fixing . But still glad to get back in it after driving our 2 year old Seat Ibiza...

Hi Just finished doing my timing belt on my xedi Due to tensioner pully failing, just thought i'd share a bit incase anyone else is thinking of doing this . Breath deeply it's a frustrating more than difficult job. Despite haynes etc saying that engine moutings or engine need to be removed ths...

XEDI s reg 148000 ,won't put any more on for a month or so due to timing belt tensioner giving up the ghost and trying to escape through cover.

The best way if it's stuck is to put a screwdriver in the slot (pull the interior light panel off ,just held on with spring clips so comes off easily) and turn it as you press the button to work the sun roof.

Could be drop links ,Change both as they are not too expensive and if you only change side where knock is it wont last as other side being worn will probably knacker it again

Hi does anyone know where the special tools for changing cambelt on 1998 diesel can be bought reasonably ,or does anyone have the dimensions or drawings for these, was looking on tinternet and saw £48 for what looked like threadded bar with a nut and handle on the end . Would have tried...
