Over heating engine - Head Gasket?

Managed to source an engineer who knows the V8 engines well and is willing to work on my engine. Attempted to drive to his workshop (20 mins from home) but after 5 mins engine overheated again - limped back home after waiting a while for it to cool down. Call me a pesimist but my worry is if the...

Over heating engine - Head Gasket?

Could have slipped liners (by doing some research - steep learning curve but still dont know what they are/do but I know it's not good) - there is a tapping noise which starts when the engine has warmed up and increases with engine revs - this seems to point to slipped liners.

Over heating engine - Head Gasket?

Just picked up my rangie today after talking with the mechanic. He suspects a blown gasket. He phoned up the local landrover dealers and they said the 4.6 is prone to overheating and may have warped the engine block - they suggested a new engine as replacing the gasket may not solve the problem...

Over heating engine - Head Gasket?

Thanks Sandyt for your thoughts. Thought I would take her out for a drive to see if it would overheat again. Made sure I topped her up with water. After about 10 mins the needle suddenly shot into the red and the light came on - it was rock solid at 12 o clock up until then then bang, straight...

Head gaskets done again and boom ah well

Wish I had the expertise and (I assume) facilities as you sandy. My 2000 4.6 encountered massive over heating last Thurs with major coolant lose - booked in to local garage to sort the problem (assume blown HG). Would you have any idea of roughly what costs I am expected to dish out? Beginning...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Had the same problem - bulb failure warning, tapped the rear unit - light back on but annoying bulb failure warning still there. Any way to get rid? I can tell you what my RR will be doing on Wed - local garage for (almost certain) new HG.......OUCH!!!!

Over heating engine - Head Gasket?

Thanks for the quick replies. So a previous owner decided on a quick fix. Are these HG sealers worth trying (or does my situation answer that question).

Over heating engine - Head Gasket?

Hello Arrived home today and as I parked my 4.6 2000 p38, I could not help but notice there was steam pouring out of the engine...cue head in hands! Temp gauge was flashing red. She has done 126,000 miles and as a consequence of being a regular visiter to this (excellent) forum and reading many...

    EAS Compressor working overtime!

First of all thanks to Datatek for providing me with the all important EAS cable and software. Did the initial simple checks as suggested by Wammers but all ok. She stays rock solid overnight in terms of height. I have attached the fault readings from the cable and the software programme - the...

    Spewing out coolant!

My P38 2000 4.6 has started to spew out coolant all at once - usually when i switch off the engine.........it leaves a significant puddle! It forms at the front on the driver's side - could be wrong but it does not seem to be coming from the radiator - I havn't had time to have a good look. Any...

Thought it might be the fuel filter....if it exists!

Thanks lads. With ref to Saint V8, is this something I shoudn't worry about too much as I run her mainly on gas - only use petrol on start up when she can run rough.

Thought it might be the fuel filter....if it exists!

P38 4.6 (LPG) 2000 runs a bit rough when on petrol but ok when I switch to LPG. Thought it might be a fuel filter problem but found out from this forum that it does not exist! So why does ebay have sellers selling fuel filters? Any other reason why she is running rough on petrol only. Changed...

poor acceleration from cold-misfires and hesitates

Replaced the air flow meter but still having problems - again when starting up and pulling away. It hesitates and threatens to cut out but then picks up at the last minute and then ok. The RR has a LPG convertion - it starts on petrol - could it be a fuel delivery problem?

    EAS Compressor working overtime!

Checked for myself the air springs - they are in good condition - soapy water test did not reveal any leaks. Did the soapy water on the valve block and again no sign of any leaks. When stationary I can hear the compressor - in most conditions usually switched on, cuts out for a few seconds and...

    spare key engine disabled!!!

I had the same problem a few days ago - I changed the battery and followed the steps below and it worked - now my spare key is fully operational: Close all car doors. Insert the spare key in the drivers side lock pressing and holding the button with the lock symbol. Turn the key to the left...

    EAS Compressor working overtime!

I sprayed all the areas of the valve blocks with soapy water and when the compressor stops it lets out a whoosing noise - this sprayed the soapy water everywhere from one of the corners. Is this normal - is this connected to the the exhaust filter (Datatek)? Sorry, I am only a beginner.

    EAS Compressor working overtime!

Thanks for the advice. The mechanic said the air springs are all in good condition which was good news to me. I am new to P38s and not much of a DIY person but cant afford to visit a garage again this month as I have already forked out nearly £500 to 'fix' the compressor problem and a week...

    EAS Compressor working overtime!

Recently purchased a P38 4.6 Vogue Yr 2000 and replaced the compresser a couple of weeks ago (previous one was dead). The compresser seems to switch on and off on a regular basis and concerned it will burn itself out. I had a local garage to check it out and found no leaks with the air springs...
