    Head gasket or not...?

1996 110 Defender 300Tdi. 167k miles. In use 7 days a week. Any thoughts on this? The coolant kept needing topped up roughly about every 3 weeks, but I couldn't find a leak. Added some leak sealer in the end as simply could not discover where it was leaking from (based on the logic that when...

Discovery attempts ford in full flood... FAIL!

It might be a submarine actually - it certainly went underwater, and now it's coming back up again... :)

What's best way to clean an engine bay and:

Yes - I had not heard it on the news and a mate told me about it on facetube today so I went for a look-see. Your right - he had his wife, 2 children and 2 dogs in when he attempted this! See: HERE Or: Family rescued in Northumberland river drama - Local News - Northumberland Gazette

Discovery attempts ford in full flood... FAIL!

Saw this today near my house. Apparently he had his wife, 2 children and 2 dogs in it and attempted to cross the ford in full flood (it's actually gone down a bit now). Had to be rescued by Fire brigade (see HERE for full story and video showing the rescue ) eventually. From the bank you can see...

What's best way to clean an engine bay and:

Well, I photographed this method of engine bay cleaning (+ cleaned the interior + 2 kids, 2 dogs and his wife!) near my house today - can't think what else he can have been trying to do since the river was a raging torrent at the time and the ford all but invisible after 3 days of torrential...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Oil and filter change. Of course, got some up my arm when taking the sump plug out and as ever managed to miss the oil tray and empty half a pint of old oil on the road

    Landy thief sent down!!!

Which presumably means he still has an eBay account ! Nice to see they are keeping on top of criminal activity then! The 10,000 item thing is a bit misleading. If you sell say tins of beans, you obviously order them in as and when you need them - so you might have 10 in stock at any one time...

    MOT damage

Absolutely - and without doubt, if you looked hard enough and are determined enough you could fail a brand new car straight out of the factory if you wanted to, so that's another reason for me not to report him to VOSA. Shame that this guy's probably doing it to others though (we all know it...

    MOT damage

Took it to another MOT place - surprise surprise, it failed on the 4 items I expected and knew needed to be done.... and none of the things on the other 3 pages guy no1. had claimed! When I pointed out (after I had the certificate in my mitts!) to the new tester that my chassis was allegedly...

    Landy thief sent down!!!

Remember he actually will only get half of that - so less than 1 year. So he'll have made more money in that 1 year probably than those of us who work (most of these type of guys are also invariably claiming dole too). Still it's lucky that he wasn't from where I live, our local court would have...

    MOT damage

Nah, tank is just over 2 years old and in immaculate nick as it too is waxoyled all round! Also I had the tank off 2 months ago to do the rear X member and it was in really good nick. I suspect the pipes have been pulled or something but won't be able to check properly until daylight tomorrow.

    MOT damage

I was just saying I wished I had taken someone with me as they could have provided a statement that those things were not damaged when I left the landy with him - as the more I think about it, the more believe this is actually criminal damage rather than just a civil offence - it makes no sense...

    MOT damage

Funnily enough I am in Morpeth too - but I went to a place on the industrial estate. My father uses Thompson's and they've been absolutely first class with him too. I do 90% of my own stuff but otherwise use a local 1 man garage up there who is scrupulously honest (I've come back to find a bill...

    MOT damage

I wonder what people think is the best approach to take here. Having done an engine swap and been off road for a while, I took my 110 to be MOT'd at one of the big tyre and exhaust group type places (which I normaly avoid, but needed it done today) - I knew there were some things needed doing...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Fitted a 200TDI to replace my knackered 2.5 n/a diesel in my 1984 110/Defender. Just the plumbing and wiring to do now!

How to - Land Rover 90 TD to Discovery 200TDi Engine Conversion

Update - it was a matter of taking the engine mountings off completely, (which I'd been advised not to do) and then the usual shaking and wobbling it home! An early set back was my local independent Landy place gave me the wrong mounts and despite my insistence were adamant they were the...

Thanks for those, will give the threaded rod method a try tomorrow - will save the gearbox out method for if all else fails - but would be a sound method thanks.

How to - Land Rover 90 TD to Discovery 200TDi Engine Conversion

Well, been stuck on what everyone agrees is a simple job now for over week - about to have to start hiring a car, so any advice gratefully received (apart from scrapping it, which has seriously occured to me I have to admit). I have a 110 Defender (1984) which was 2.5 n/a and into which I'm...
