    Love my 300 tdi

I'm currently driving a 300tdi disco while my 200tdi Defender is off the road. I have to say it's absolutely great. Comfy, quiet, fairly economical and it cost next to nothing! I wouldn't want the bill for fixing the rust mind!

    transporting trailoring my defender

A 110 weighs a bit over 2 tons. A suitable trailer will weigh 800 to a 1000kg empty. you need a trailer plated at 3500kg. So anything not rated to tow 3500kg won't do. In other words to tow a Landy on a trailer you need...................A Land Rover!

    Newbie question: I am looking at buying a 1995 300tdi 110 Defender...

It's very likely that what you describe is the real floor. It's a bolted in plate.

Which MT tyres? (Cooper STT Pro not an option)

Have you tried Paddock's according to their website they've got STT's in your size in stock.

What jack do you carry 24/7?

Little red bottle jack out of an old disco. If it won't go high enough because your wheels are taller a piece of wood under it is quite a cheap accessory.

To carrier, or not to carrier

If you can't lift your bonnet with a spare wheel on it how are you going to lift one on or off the back door? I only open my bonnet maybe once a week but I need to open the back door several times every day so even with a swingaway jobbie to save the door from imminent destruction it would be a...

    Defender 90 or Freelander 2

I'm a definite Defender fan having owned three over the years. That said I wouldn't have on as an everyday car if I wasn't a farmer and didn't need what the Fender provides me with. They truly are unpleasant in the long term if you do long road miles. A Freelander can't be washed out inside with...

    90 200tdi wont start - weird sound

Try connecting a temporary earth with a jump lead from battery neg to a good clean earth point on the chassis. If it works ok your problem is your earth connections.

bfg muds VS cooper STT for mileage/longevity - yes another fecking tyre thread! :)

I can vouch for clay being difficult. I drive in it every day. It's one of the few things that's actually better when it's really wet because it comes out of the treads easier. When it's been drying for a few days it can be impossible even for a tractor.

bfg muds VS cooper STT for mileage/longevity - yes another fecking tyre thread! :)

The usual kind. Mostly work related. I'm a farmer so a lot of country roads, muddy fields and a fair bit of towing, plus regular motorway/dual carriageway stuff usually with a trailer. That particular set saw service on a defender and on a couple of discos. Changed the vehicle, kept the tyres!

    Notchy gearbox

Worth bleeding your clutch it'll cost nothing and could solve the problem.

bfg muds VS cooper STT for mileage/longevity - yes another fecking tyre thread! :)

Can't really help you other than to say I got well over 50k miles out of my last set of BFG muds. The old type not the ones they do now. I'm currently using Cooper STT and they compare very favourably with the BFGs for performance but I'm a long way off knowing how long they'll last.

    Best Off Road Tyre Choice

Like tractor tyres. Very large open tread. Unbelievable traction in mud but like turboman said you'll probably start breaking halfshafts etc. You can get them in 16 inch sizes that will go on LR rims.

    Best Off Road Tyre Choice

Just re read the original post and yes it refers to purely off road use. Does this mean not driving on the road at all? Changing your wheels over when you get to the dirty bits? If you're not going on the road at all put dumper tyres on it.

    Best Off Road Tyre Choice

If you have a look on paddock's there's only a couple of quid difference between the cooper stt and those horrible noisy Insa special tracks. Proper new tyre vs. remould? Decent on road performance vs. scary handling? I know what I'd be getting.

    Best Off Road Tyre Choice

I put a set of new Cooper STT on my 110 a couple of months ago. I drive in a lot of mud every day with and without trailers and I'm very, very impressed with them. They can be had for a very good price too. Only thing I can't comment on is longevity but I'm hoping they'll do OK.
