Just an update. I checked the plenum oil passageway and replaced the flame trap which seems to have resolved the issue (hopefully). Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for your responses. Would a blocked crankcase breather or plenum oil passageway only cause erratic low idling when restarting the engine from hot and not any other time?

The car had always run fine. This problem only occurred when there was a fault with the original dizzy and continued when the new dizzy was fitted. The car ran fine with the loan dizzy fitted apart from often hunting with low revs when restarting when hot.
