    Help - Biodiesel usage

I already use biodiesel in my Defender 90, when I can get it. I have to travel to Liverpool to buy the stuff, so unless I'm going there anyway it's not worth the time and tunnel tolls really. If there was somewhere on the Wirral I could buy bio fuel I'd go there instead. The company in...

if it only happens at a particular speed (rather than rpm), it's probably not engine related. Start with simple things - are your wheels balanced, are your tyres in good condition?

any one using veg oil as an additive in a turbo diesel none tdi?

I read somewhere that a small amount of veg oil mixed with the regular diesel (say 25% or so) is actually good for the injector pump, as the veg oil lubricates better than today's low-sulphur diesels, but the mixture is not so viscous to cause problems. It sounds like a good theory, I might...

    Need Help: Battery light showing

Charge voltage should be 14.5V at the very most, over 15 and I would worry about boiling your battery acid off, and possibly exploding the battery. But as has been said, check the calibration on the voltmeter.

    oil change + clutch

For all the variants of gearbox listed in my haynes manual, ATF is specified, that includes the R380. I hope that's right as mine is an R380 and I recently filled it with ATF :)

Perhaps there's a nice oil leak to compensate :D

    Brake Frustration

Did you refit the shoe return springs on the rear drum brakes correctly? "Correctly" is from the leading shoe to the post on the backplate, not between the two shoes. I know this from bitter experience :)

    correct battery voltage

Leaving lead acid batteries for a long time with no charging does knacker them. If you're going to be leaving a car unused for a long time, it's probably worth removing the battery and putting it on a "maintenance charger", like an Optimate. You can get batteries that are more resiliant to...

    Wading depth

I was changing the diff oil in my landy over the weekend, and one of the fill plugs has rusted stuck, so I was trying to fill it through the drain hole, using a tight fitting rubber bung and a squeezy bottle full of oil. After I had squeezed about a litre of oil in, I pulled the bung out...

New bushes required - poly or not?

Hmm, lots of info, thanks :) Can anyone recommend a set of "proper" poly bushes then? I want to buy a quality set that will last years, got enough things to fix without replacing these every year :) Mad Hat Man, do you personally use those blue ones from mailorder4x4.com that you posted...

New bushes required - poly or not?

Yet another question, I did search but didn't find the definitive answer (possibly because there isn't one!). I've just found that I need to replace a load of bushes on my 90, most of the ones on the steering parts, and the rear "triangle" bushes. I'm pretty sure I can do this myself...

    Front prop shaft

Excuse the slight digression but can you just pop that rubber seal off and apply grease? Or is something more required? Given the state of my landy I'm thinking I should check this (and 100 other things) :)

90 gear / transfer box question

Thanks for those pics, the mystery of the cavernous transfer box is solved! I was using the wrong hole to fill it :D There's another plug, which looks like a fill plug, it has a copper washer even, up at the top left hand side of the box. The Haynes manual has no pictures so I just assumed...

90 gear / transfer box question

I've got a 1989 "90" which has had a 300 TDi engine fitted. I believe the gear box and transfer box from the donor vehicle (a '95 110 I think) were also used. Over the weekend I was changing the oil in both boxes. The Haynes manual says (from memory) 2.7 litres of ATF in the gear box, and 2.8...
