You best open up the ECU's you have and check if they have the EPROM in a socket or soldered to the PCB. Plug & Play is not quite true, unless they have also disabled the security code exchange with the BECM. This is generally used when installing the ECU in a non-P38 car such as old...

RRC EFI 3,9 first crank after rebuilt

Put the push rods & rockers on, all spark plugs out, and then try turning over. That way you can check the oil is circulating & lubricating the cam, tappets, rockers, etc. Adn STOP trying to do it early !!

Early 3.5 Range Rover cruise control?

There are "aftermarket" cruise systems out there, but you would need one that uses a cable on the throttle, not one that connects to an electronic throttle.

Does the iCarsoft read all the settings, etc ? If it does then grounding must be ok, or it would not communicate.

P38A Farewell to another P38.. or hello ?

Just found a garage that stocks it near parent's house in Ferndown. Might bring the Blue P38 next week & put some in, just to see if it still works !! No use long term, because both parents gone & house to be sold soon.

As it's a 1996 car the ECU giving the error code will be the GEMS ECU located next to the battery. There are many different "tunes" loaded depending the year of manufacture & destination market for the car when first shipped from factory. Read the attached Land Rover "GEMS Systems"...

    P38A Vale block removal??

Unplug electrics. undo the small screws holding the cruise pump in place. Pull out airlines if there are any left. Then there's four 13mm bolts holding the housing in place. Alternatively if you want the cruise pump working again, simply undo the three 8mm bolts holding the valve block...

P38 top end stripped lpg advise

It was in the car when I bought it. Prins multi-point system. Apart from re-installing after the engine rebuild, the only thing I have do is improve the coolant pipe run layouts where they tee off to the vaporiser.

    Update, Need Urgent help!

If he loosens the 8mm nut on the other end & squirts plenty of plus-gas in there, it might free up ? Show him the pictures in that other thread as well.

Check what wiring mods have been done so you know the reason. If you have spare GEMS ECU, then step-1 is to check if iCarsoft V2 can do the re-learn. If so open the ECU up & look for bodges. If they look standard then try them. No need to replace BECM, etc. If iCarsoft V2 cannot do it...

P38 top end stripped lpg advise

Depends if you have LPG available near you, and if you want to use it. My project P38 has LPG, so I re-installed everything, but have only run it on petrol so far. Put the injectors & wiring in, so I didn't have to block the manifold ports. Local specialist said when I'm ready to get it...

RRC EFI 3,9 first crank after rebuilt

+1 on should not have turned it over. Should have at least installed the push-rods & rockers. Then you could have checked compression !!

    Update, Need Urgent help!

What is siezed ? Is it the pulley or the tensioner ? Have a look at this thread about removal. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/replacing-auxiliary-belt-tensioner-pulley.307687/

Are there any "additions" to the GEMS ECU or the wiring to it ? Someone may have re-programmed the ROM in it & messed it up ? Otherwise you probably have two options: 1) replace the ECU & do the sucurity re-learn. Not sure if iCarsoft V2 can do this ? 2) have it re-programmed properly by an...

    Belt Tensioner! Urgent Help

There's a section in RAVE that shows how the tensioner comes out. I had the same problem on my wifes FL1 TD4. If I remember correctly you can remove the engine mount & jack the engine enough to remove it but cannot be sure. with the engine in place, the 13mm nut behind will need a thin...

Freelander 1 Drivetrain knock when turning

Nope. Should have metioned drop links, track rod ends & lower balljoints also all done recently. The noise sounds exactly like a failing CV, but there's no play.

Freelander 1 Drivetrain knock when turning

We changed both front wheel bearings & driveshafts including CV joints recently on Son's 2004 FL1. All seemed good, but it still has a knocking noise on sharp corners. The VCU seems ok and not siezed (or wasn't a month ago). Wondering if the knocking could be the IRD failing ? What's...
