Hot day: Brake pedal hard and brakes binding

Hi All, Strange problem here. I fitted a complete set of new brakes, master/slaves, pipes etc late last year. All was well apart from taking ages to get a good pedal (bleeding with the car jacked up at the front solved this) and having to back off one front drum adjuster due to a slight...

    Diff oil type

Hi All, Am planning a trip to the factors at lunch to get some diff oil to service both axels. Annoyingly, I have left the manual at home so I don't know what the LR recommended type is. Can anyone help please? Thanks, B PS: Will the same oil also suit the gear box?

S2a 2.25 Petrol Compression Test Results

Interesting, so compression may actually be higher warm! Thanks again James, much appreciated. B

S2a 2.25 Petrol Compression Test Results

Great! Thanks James. I should also point out that these readings were taken cold, I assume they will be lower when hot? I had a quick look at the head with a totch in the dark but it has been painted so it is difficult to see. I don't suppose you (or anyone else) has a picture of the compression...

S2a 2.25 Petrol Compression Test Results

Hi All, I performed a Comp Test today and came up with the following results: 1: 138 psi 2: 145 psi 3: 145 psi 4: 138 psi Do these sound ok? After consulting the Haynes book of lies, I found the following info: 7:1 Motor 145 psi 8:1 Motor 160 - 170 psi How do I know if I have a 7:1...

Details of 1966 S2a Heater setup please

Thanks for the info Graham, I have an early petrol 2a with individual wipers so luckily have the round smiths heater. Do you know how the vents attach to the screen and the 'factory' run for the pipes between them and the heater please? Cheers, B

Details of 1966 S2a Heater setup please

Hi all, The S2a I am restoring has no heater. I want to fit one but would like it to be as authentic as possible. So I have bought and restored a S2a round heater. I have managed to get hold of a pair of 2a windscreen demisters and pipes, the type shown here: and a rheostat like this one...

Pictures of SWB fuel tank and pipe dia please?

Tom: That would be great, thanks! Oxides: Thanks for that although I have to take the seat box out as I plan to fit a S3 gearbox in the near future. However, knowing that there is an access hatch means that I can replace the pipe before the box swap. Cheers, B

Pictures of SWB fuel tank and pipe dia please?

Great - Thanks! Can I assume that with just the seat box removed that I can see the top of the tank as yours is? To clarify - I need to know the internal diameter of the fuel supply pipe (the black plastic one in your image). I had tried a search but came up with two possible answers; 5/8 and...

Inertia seat belt kit for the Series 2a

Hmmm, fair point. As you say; not ideal but it will work. I am considering making a braced rollover hoop, bolted through the floor to the chassis just behind the seats at some point. If I do, I will add a seatbelt loop mount but until then I will do as you did. Thanks

Inertia seat belt kit for the Series 2a

Yes, I looked at those as I have a pair for the TR3a but they require a pillar mounted loop which I want to avoid so I can go topless in the summer. Where did you mount yours please?

Inertia seat belt kit for the Series 2a

Ahh, I see. I assumed that by fitting it on the bulkhead the reel would be orientated across the car rather than along it.

Inertia seat belt kit for the Series 2a

I agree about the mounting point but I suspect the orientation of the inertia reel can be critical. If you have ever taken one apart, you might find that there is a steel ball operating the main locking mechanism, front to rear. On the pair I have, poised for fitment to my TR3a project, this...

Inertia seat belt kit for the Series 2a

This is the problem I am having too. There are seatbelt kits available from Paddocks Intertia Lap and Diagonal Belt for outer front seats of Def/Series hardtop vehicles. but normally reels need to be fitted upright to the side of the vehicle so that the inertia mechanism can operate. The belt...

Inertia seat belt kit for the Series 2a

Hi All, I have fixed belts and want to change them for inertia reels. Have any of you done this and are there easy to fit kits out there please? Thanks, B

What S2a colours were available in 1966?

Agreed - what was I thinking!? Sometimes it takes someone to point out the obvious. :-) I am torn between Bronze Green and Poppy Red
