To buy or not to buy??

Managed to narrow the fuel smell down a bit... It's on hot start mainly. Does it a tiny bit now when hot idling too.

Slid it back over and put a couple of cable ties around like you mentioned. See how it goes on the commute later!

To buy or not to buy??

I noticed a slight vibration at about 60, then when traveling on the smaller b roads over a load of speed bumps, it came off fully. Yeah I will just hammer it back on and maybe blob some sealant in. Good news was a nice cool VCU after about 20mins over 70mph.

To buy or not to buy??

Drove home again and nothing! Except a loud bang and clattering as the VCU balance weight separated... Just pushed it back on roughly and will have a better look later when I wake up!

Yeah seen the evap valve, no leaks around that. Not noticed any clicking from it though. Interestingly, just drove to work and not a whiff...

So that line that looks like a return, just goes to the carbon canister and vents to atmosphere?

To buy or not to buy??

Genuinely can't see anything.... Just a thought, if I click ignition off and on a few times to prime the fuel system, will it raise the pressure higher than normal and possibly make any leaks more obvious? How long does the pump prime for?

To buy or not to buy??

I'm at a loss! Really don't want to be defeated though!

To buy or not to buy??

Thinking I may ignore the tick then! Cant be anything too serious. The fuel smell was really quite bad today. Mainly when cold, only really becomes apparent when stationary, but guess that will be all the air rushing around the engine bay.. I'm stumped! It's got to be a leak or something...

To buy or not to buy??

Cool, will look into the ignition stuff then, see what I can find. The smell mainly came through the blower, drawn from the engine bay, which smelt quite strongly. I have searched and searched and can't find any leaks. Ahh, I replaced the watery oil with 10w40 I think. Might stick some flush...

To buy or not to buy??

I haven't alibro, but I did take them.off and have a good look. I am also not noticing the fuel smell anywhere near as much... Wondering if I have just got used to it or if it has self.fixed! Since the warmer weather, I have had the passenger window down (still haven't got a switch module...

To buy or not to buy??

Well the Italian tune up has had some effect.. it maybe a placebo, but it does seem 'peppy-er'... And the almost stalling initial idle is back... Will drive normally for the day tomorrow and see if it settles again.

To buy or not to buy??

Don't think my little app will look at that live data either! Making me wonder if these fuel trim and cam position sensor faults are just spurious...? It has had a bit of one.. will try thrashing it a bit more tomorrow and get it nice and hot.

Ok, possibly on the list then. Would an not gas analyser pickup a blocked cat?

To buy or not to buy??

Ok, being a facelift, will mine have the cat in the manifold? Also, is it clearable or is it time for new?

To buy or not to buy??

Umm yeah, interesting thought. Would that be a case of a replacement? Or will it eventually burn off and come good? Is there a way to diagnose?

To buy or not to buy??

Well the OBD2 didn't give me the real time data annoyingly! Pretty much exactly 300miles on £75 at about 129p (can't find the receipt now!) I get that at about 60litres, about 13.4 gallons, which is about 22mpg.

Yeah good idea also, not sure what the capability of this tool is but I will have a play!

    Freelander 1 Freelander 1, A modern classic?

Seems pointless to me (personally) as it's still not renewable... But just thought it'd put another point in the discussion! As battery, charging, and motor technology improves I bet we will see cost effective conversions appearing... Aston and Jag do one for their classic cars. It's all only...

Cant believe no one has suggested an LPG hybrid conversion!
