    D1 300TDi - remove ABS thoughts?

I am pretty fussy about insurance and worked in the industry for over 20 years. If you tell an underwriter you've removed a feature which should enhance safety that will be noted, and possibly the company will decline to cover you. In the case I mentioned it was a practical solution, the pedal...

    D1 300TDi - remove ABS thoughts?

My bother removed his after endless trouble which his mechanic couldn't fix. Wouldn't worry about the insurance aspect, much safer without an intermittent Abs problem, and as said, only fitted to certain models.... and Japanese imports.

Disco 4 (LR4) advice on buying a used ulez compliant disco4

If you're in the general London area, perhaps you need to check with your insurers, some scare stories there also.

    Buying advice

Must admit I'd like one now that prices are falling. Unfortunately my wife is too practical and can't see why we should replace our ultra cheap to run, and reliable, old Octavia.

    Buying advice

I've been looking at them for a while. I reckon if you do mainly short trips, go for petrol as there don't seem to be any significant issues. Apparently the later examples are better, or perhaps too recent for problems to have builtp up. The 2.2 on the first ones seems good but you're into an...

    Electrical Issues after welding

I got minor bodywork repairs last year on an Octavia. Only a pin welder used to pull out a light crease. When I drove it after being returned to me, no indicators or headlights, plus boot catch clicking. Repairer said it had to be coincidence. Next day, no instruments working at all, everything...

    Go Electric or Not

I think electric propulsion has a future and technology is advancing rapidly but certainly isn't for the masses yet. I reckon though that it's currently a good time to buy a small 2/3 Yr old electric car as depreciation has been so heavy, in fact, I can't see it lasting. They're ideal as second...

    Stoplock Pro or Pro Elite?

Might be worth trying NFU Mutual, they're not on comparison sites. They're a bit fussy on who they take at times but I think they still give introductory NCD if you've got a clean record. I've just noticed you're in Birmingham, I'm not so sure now, but it's only a tel call to some of the local...

    3.6 Liter tdv8 engine transplant in 2.7 liter 2007 Discovery 3

Out of interest, was your engine rebuilt after the first failure? Some would say that the block is often damaged and only for scrap. I'm wondering who had to pay for the second failure..

    Disco 2 M6 Broken down...

Agreed VOSA doing roadside checks. Young lads with dangerously lowered cars, noisy exhausts, bald tyres, Insurance issues, tacho issues, overloading, etc. They're looking for the obvious, not interested in egr or cat bypasses as these get through Mot so far. That legislation will tighten, but...

Yep, he's full of hot air. I've questioned him previously, Facebook perhaps, when he'd posted about how easy the Edc pumps were to repair.

I'm afraid I can't help here, nor am I able to answer in appropriate fashion, but that's an impressively written post.

Would you like to expand on how easy they are to repair? I've been on this forum a few years now and never found anything.

The stop solenoid isn't really needed, you could remove the innards to eliminate it. Easier to check for diesel flow into the pump by loosing off the union assuming the engine turn over on the starter? Have you checked if any diesel getting to the injectors. I had trouble with an Edc pump, no...

    Discovery 2 window frames

Hammerite is known to chip easily. Powder coating is a good tough coating but if there's any rust left it will fester and expand under that hard coat. Personally I'd sandblast, paint with several coats of Bondaprimer, leave it a few days, or longer if possible, then coat with satin black. I'm...

    Any D1 owners here?

I've a lovely Tdi auto, 100k miles, good service history but 10 previous owners. Chassis, boot and all floors basically rust free but I had to weld a little on an inner wing. It's a bit of a wimp, summer use only.

    In need of nanocom

If you search for D2 Nanocom on eBay, a number of adverts usually come up where you can hire one, or someone will diagnose your fault with their own unit. I noticed Salisbury and Hook as two areas. Not as good as owning your own though. A word of warning, I've seen a second hand one advertised...
