    Yes it certainly is RIP Nigel. He's been slowly dissolving outside the barn for 12 month now... a bit of a shame, but rust is the death of all D1's eventually. At least his engine & gearbox will ensure I have plenty of life in the Defender V8.

    No. Richards offer the service... But marsland say they won't do it as it's illegal. Just find a garage with some stamps, and show them all of your materials to prove it's yours, and that the old chassis has been destroyed. The dvla system isn't built for vehicles with separate ladder chassis.

    There isn't one... Well, in as much as the official procedure is to keep the old dumb iron, photos of the rebuild, receipts, etc. Officially you're not supposed to stamp the replacements chassis at all.

    A set of stamps and a hammer :) Richards chassis did mine before they dipped it. You'll get tonnes of different answers regarding the legality, but at the end of it all you'll see that the dvla system doesn't work for landys.

    Cheers Discool. so it's odd given that my donor engine alternator was from a '94 v8 manual, and my "active" D1 is a '96 v8 manual. I'd expect them to be the same, although perhaps there's a difference with pre-AC vs post-AC? mind you... my active D1 is the later model, and is non-AC. Thanks...

    Thanks for that CT. Any idea of the part number differences on the pulleys front? I think from memory the electrical bit is covered by A127-100 (100 Amp). Obviously that doesn't define anything about the pulley, so I assume there are 2 different LR numbers. The fuel smell may well be a problem...

    Thanks @aaronmorris - so in terms of my set up, a 300tdi spec chassis with an early puma tub.... I just need to find or make up these bar plates with captive nuts, and then everything is the same as my original tub right? Chassis tabs still on the outside of the tub, even though it's a puma tub...
