Thanks again guys. Dann, today was my 1st chance to get back to the alternator situation. There is no rubber cover, least not on my electrical connector, unless you mean the yellow concertina type seal inside the connector? Outside of the connector there is plastic sheath encasing the two wires...

Replace the oil temp sensor , it's the most likely cure and a common fail part.

Do yourself a favour and get/use new bolts. TTY (Torque To Yield) should NOT be re-used. You are torqueing the bolts to the point of yield and then fractionally beyond. Once they have reached yield point the elasticity in the bolt is lost forever! Therefore they cannot be torqued to...

It sounds more likely the ABS self check on start up. Put your foot on the brake at start up and you'll feel it through the pedal. Nice way of getting a new starter though! :D
