    Historic Vehicle Status

Whilst checking to see whether my April 1983 S3 qualifies for HVS I checked the V5 for a make date because I think they go by date of manufacture rather than registration (?). The 10th digit for mine is an A which shows a make date of 2010! Does anyone know about this please?

    Series III replacement rear door

Tomorrow is fitting day. I sprayed my rear quarter panels today with cellulose. I am spraying outdoors. Although it was about 15 degrees the paint still seems to have bloomed…..hopefully when I cut and polish it the bloom will be removed.

    Series III replacement rear door

Oh! Well that doesn’t sound very promising! Is it tricky resetting the hinges where they attach to the body or is it just a patience thing…..is there a procedure for doing this or do you just adjust as you go until it fits?

    Series III replacement rear door

My replacement SP panels galvanised frame rear door to my series 3 is about ready to sit. Do I just undo the bolts that go through the old door and hope that they are in exactly the same place on the new door? Or is that extremely unlikely?!

    Is there any alternative now?

Thank you. They say they can provide exactly what I am after. I assume I can build up the layers them cut back and polish.

    Is there any alternative now?

I have prepared my rear quarter panels for repainting. I want to use aerosols as I don’t have any spray kit but it seems that you can only buy coach enamel or 2k. All I want is a nice long-lasting smooth finish which enamel won‘t give me and 2K is too dangerous to use for an amateur. I would...

    Countersunk Rivets?

I want to remove the spare wheel holder on my bonnet which will leave a circle of holes on the bonnet. I want to countersink the holes and then fit countersunk aluminium rivets so they are not proud of the surface of the bonnet. Is this doable as I can’t seem to find CS rivets which are short...

Which ones did you buy and from whom please? Also I have sent you a pm 😊

    Stainless Screws for Indicators etc….

I was. I managed to get the plastic cover off one of the indicators and the base fitting is held in place by three self-tapping screws. The plastic surround, into which the cover sits, is so brittle (probably the same for all similar fittings on the car) that I am going to replace them all. Can...

    Stainless Screws for Indicators etc….

I am changing my orange indicators, clear side lights and red rear lights as they are full of moisture and old clouded plastic. I want to use stainless screws instead of the supplied steel screws. Could someone please suggest a suitable metric size for the fitting screws and also for those...

    SP Galvanised Rear Door

I recently bought a Paintman Panels glazed door top and it fitted perfectly. I bought the rear door from SP because it has a galvanised steel frame and since it was the rusting steel frame that corroded my current door skin I saw this as the way forward (Paintman don’t supply galvanised rear...

    Series 3 Rear Quarter Panel

Yes…..I think that level of expertise is beyond me. Thanks though.

    Series 3 Rear Quarter Panel

This is the panel I mean. I removed the rubber bump stop above the fog light because its base was rusty. Therefore the aluminium skin is now corroded where it was located. I nw think I will sand it and fill it with a P38 skim, Upol Dolphin Glaze to finish and a coat if marine blue. I thought the...

    Series 3 Rear Quarter Panel

If I drill out all the rivets can I replace my corroded rear quarter panel from the inside without taking the cab and galvanised rail off and replace it with a new panel? I have looked and it seems possible……which means I probably can’t!! Any advice welcome thanks. John
