Freelander 2 wheel drive IDR conversion

Mines already mondo and without the shaft, if I sold it I would fess up (after all, the ****ing heap is worth nowt to me now). Now the rest of the box has broken up so I contacted Bell early last week as the 2wd is half the price of a 4wd (which I dont need). Guy told me he was in the...

VCU - Things I wuz ignorant of

I scrapped the whole lot (Im having a garage de clutter right now). When this car finally goes I shant be having another LR. As soon as this ones paid for, its off! This car will never be restored to 4wd. Its a much better drive in mondo, quieter, certainly more fuel efficient and a...

VCU - Things I wuz ignorant of

The VCU on my 2000 Freelander siezed recently, this was followed by the pinion gear failing (I was lucky - this appears to be the only part broken - so far). Im now running 'mondo' with both the shaft and the pinion gear removed and a blanking plate where the shaft used to exit the IRD...

    Something inside it just broke.......

No not really, always had a 'slight' binding effect on full lock at manouvering speed, read up on it and took it to be normal on the Hippo. Been getting a fairlt low pitched whining, bit like tyre noise for a couple of days, then today, as above. Got me home, but as described, changing down...

    Something inside it just broke.......

Think I found out what the whining noise is..........erm.........was. Cruising along the dual carriageway earlier today when there was a kind of crunch/bang from underneath somewhere followed by some vibration (which passed after a few hundred yards) then some low pitch squealing then not much...

    Two things

Freelander 1. 2.0ltr XDi Changed the oil today, got the sump guard off (piece 'o' crap that innit!) to reveal oil weeps around the IRD (guessing thet the IRD is the rearmost lump, behind the engine). No weeps on the engine sump and none around the gearbox. 1. How do ya put oil in the IRD? I...

    what modifications have you done

Decent bits are a bugger to find right enough.............and waaaay too expensive when you can find 'em. I think you can create a more utilitarian and 'aggressive' (:o) look and keep it fairly simple along the way. Im thinking maybe 1. 30mm wheel spacers so a decent tyre can be fitted...
