My thoughts exactly! ill consider it again when i get closer to the point of insulating the interior and if i can find a compromise ill take it, but im not overly worried about it either! https://www.servicemetals.co.uk/ This crowd may be worth a shout if your still struggling to find the...

Yeah ill be honest, i had the same concerns, but after watching some other builds come to fruition in my garage and not a lot of consideration for cold bridging and they seem fine, so i decided to plow ahead and address that issue at a later date, now that i see the internal size i have, i may...

Small bit of an update lads and ladies! Since the last post, i was a bit side tracked semi-rebuilding a trayback project for a mate, rewiring, led lights, pump tweaking, full raptor respray, new door tops, seat belts and windscreen: Now that that is out of the way, i pulled the camper build...

Hi Tom, So due to the engine choice (6bt) having a significantly reduced RPM range, gearing had to be changed to suit. the common solution to this is a 1:1 ratio LT230, so this allows me to run a 3rd axle off the PTO (only in high ratio). this is the cheapest and easiest way i can achieve what...

So ive been cracking on since last time with more of the rear subfloor. Just tipping away tacking pieces in bit by bit and deciding on dimensions as i approach an issue... just goes to show, even with all the 3d CAD prep i had done, it still comes down to on the fly adjustments! Here i was...

Ill be powering it through the PTO output, the transfer box in question is a 1:1 ratio which makes this possible.

cheers man! Yeah as it happens, the engine in it currently isnt the one ill be using, i have another engine organised for it. however all the goodys off this engine will be moving across to the new lump. Bigger injectors, piston lift pump, boost pin, governor spring, dynamic timing spacer...

Its an Allison 2000 series auto, I had a 110 i put a cummins in a few years back, with a manual ZF box, i used it mostly for long haul and towing, the manual box drove me mad, too noisy and heavy clutch, so said id try auto this time for a bit more comfort!

Cheers man! There is an inherant 'drag' in the back axle in a 6x6 all right, in normal circumstances, not really an issue as it is fairly minimal, where it becomes a bigger issue is with tight turns, to combat this, im planning to set the back axle up with a lift bag, this should allow me to...

So next up I got a hold of a P38 rear axle. These are offset due to the passenger side drop transfer box, so much handier for the rear axle than flipping a D2 axle. Usual process ensued.... cut off all the brackets weld on new ones to suit the chassis. ive been doing this with a number of...

Cheers! The plan for the transfer box is to mount it remotely and to run a short propshaft between the two. Some photos incoming this evening about that!

So! Welder gas was replaced. rear axle was disassembled and i decided it wasnt going to be an easy job to flip it and flip the diff in the housing, so i shelved that idea and moved on with other jobs... A big part arrived a while back! I decided to go auto with this build for a number of...

Bit more progress over the last few days of 'social distancing'.. First up was converting the D2 front axle to Defender mountings: Plasma cut off the old brackets, handily, the D2 bumpstop pads were in the same spot as the Defender axles, making positioning the defender radius arm and...

3rd photo from the top is the end goal, ill upload more photos of the 3d design as time goes on but basically it is based on the overall dimensions of a ford F-chassis camper I came across a few years back. but i alway wanted to build a 6x6 in one configuration or another!

So, got a few more bits done in the last few days: Started with the seatbox mounts, cut them off the donor chassis... and even after measuring 3 times, still managed to put them in totally the wrong place... so i did that job twice... haha! After that fiasco, i moved onto bulkhead...
