    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Tried the reset procedure and it didn't work. Then, just this morning, I was under the bonnet after wondering why my idle was so fast, and found the throttle position sensor unplugged. After plugging it in, I wondered if it could have possibly been the cause of the evil flashing lights, but...

    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Ooop north... Well, north east really... Between Durham and Newcastle. That post has me thinking - been wondering about getting some kinda diagnostic tool. Looking on the website, they're offering 20% discount if ten people buy a Nanocom - a mate and I would have one each.... I wonder if anyone...

    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Will get underneath and check out the switch connections. No, haven't been anywhere near water - it was fine until I disconnected the battery, replaced the coil packs and reconnected the battery. After trying the other suggestions, I wouldn't be surprised if I've disturbed a connector to the...

    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Tried replacement battery and no different. Was showing 12.6v - is this normal? Am beginning to think I have upset something when I was pulling the thick loom about that goes across the top of the bulkhead....I wonder if this carries the gearbox sensor signals?

    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Aye! Designer 1 "Where can we hide those coil packs?" Designer 2 "I know; let's put them behind the inlet manifold - nobody will ever find them there MWUAH HA HA HA HAAAA!" Designer 1 "Yes! And let's make them a bit flakey so they often cause misfires" Designer 3 "Ja Ja...

    Powerfold Mirrors

Apparently the BCU (or whatever box controls the mirrors) has to sense the rising current draw of a stalled state before it stops supplying power to move the mirror. Normally this would happen when it reaches it's normal fully in or fully out position. Like the man said, I would clean/lubricate...

    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Have now put a much beefier battery on top-up charge and will try it later tonight. As for getting it tested at a garage, I'm not averse to the idea, but like most Landy owner, I like to do have a go myself first. If it absolutely defeats me, I'll book it in. Managed to identify the mosfire...

No luck - reconnected after a couple of hours, but the green lights are back! Any other ideas?

    Disco 2 V8 - I have an 'S &M' problem.....

Hi folks, I recently replaced the coil packs to cure a misfire, which worked well, though god only knows why they hid them behind the inlet manifold (3 hour job!) Anyway, unusually for me I decided to go by the book and I disconnected the battery prior to starting work. When I re-connected...

Yet another head-gasket? Liners?? Help, please......

Water loss Some water exiting through drivers (RHD) exhaust tailpipe Overheating Pressurised top hose Misfire and down on power 'chirp' sound from right bank, from cold - worsens with more throttle (not revs) I've re-done the compression test, here are the new readings: Left bank Dry...

Head Warped? How Can I Check?

The heads are coming off (following overheating/coolant loss problems) and I am trying to prepare for anything that might need doing ahead of time. Is there a way I can check if they are warped? I seem to remember something to do with a sheet of plate glass, though a Google search found only...

    Rebuilding the v8.

Thanks for the info. Am hoping I might get away with a head gasket job, but am preparing for the worst.... Already worked out that Hallbeck prices are reasonable - is reassuring to know that the service and quality are also good. Cheers again, Nobby

Yet another head-gasket? Liners?? Help, please......

I thought the readings were unbelievable as I read them - that's why I didn't even bother squirting oil in the bores and retesting. I have a 'known good' compression tester on its way and will take dry and wet readings and update. Just while we're on the subject, people seem to recommend...

    A DECENT 4.6 Engine for my P38.........

'ffs'? A bit strong, don't you think? And for what it's worth, I tried them the other day for some other bits. In this case, I decided I would try elsewhere

    A DECENT 4.6 Engine for my P38.........

Gents, In two weeks time I will be removing the heads and will be confronted with the cause of my noises/overheating/coolant loss. If I am any less than 100% certain that it is a head gasket, I will be removing the engine and will need a replacement. This would also happen, if I renew the...

    Rebuilding the v8.

I know it's an old thread but that suits my question - how is the engine going? Problem sorted with no overheating since? How much did Hallbeck charge and what did they supply? Were the liners glued in? Did they hae an o-ring seal at the bottom? Cheers, Nobby
