Diesel Runaway? Anyone had it happen?

Had it happen on a Volvo truck. Turbo blew, but pulled into side of road and stopped. Volvo mechanic came out, checked dipstick and oil was low but still there. (oil was bypassing turbo seals). So, new turbo fitted, engine started, (cab still raised) and all seemed ok. But revs started...

P38 Diesel Hickup then no power

I think you`ve answered your own question: yes it`s probably #4 injector, or the FIP. Getting the fault codes read, (as I understand it) will point to a fault, but won`t definatively say which of the 2 it is. The injector #4 is a lot cheaper and easier to replace! (Assume the intank fuel pump...

P38 DT/DSE/DHSE owners - how many miles to a tank?

Wammers: True John, but not a lot of people know that. A 90 litre tank will hold more than 90 litres of cold fuel. But less than 90 litres of warm fuel. The capacity of the tank does not change, but the volume of the fuel does. 90 litres is actually 19.79723234691 imperial gallons if he wants to...

    god paris is nice!!

Paris is France, in the same way London is England... The people who have to live and work there drive and act like people in big cities everywhere.... uummmm.. not too well...? For me "the sticks" win hands down. And Disney is not related much to France at all, but if you gotta go, try to go...

    french motoway question..

Correct, speed limit is for slip-off when sign on slip road only. But some junctions do have speed limit on all lanes (normally only 2 lanes urban m-way), signed on side and middle of road. (Beware speed limits drop when roads are wet.) Some of those you`ve seen driving slow are prob on...

    P38 'jerking/jolting' on lift-off

Datatek with one prop disconnected the free out-put shaft will have no load, so will turn at the same speed as the shaft driving the wheels. You are describing having one shaft moving and one being stopped. With one prop off there is load to stop or resist turning. Since both front and rear...

    P38 'jerking/jolting' on lift-off

Was replacement diff a 2nd hand unit? And how sure are you it`s a good`un? The Morse chain seems to go on forever. (Cue posts from people who have had failures). Provided oil is there it has a relatively easy life. Are U.Js and prop sliders all ok?

    Tapping, rough starting and smoke!

What colour smoke? Blue is burning oil. Black is excess fuel (unlikely in your case) White can be water (unlikely) OR unburnt fuel vapour. Have a sniff of it. Tapping noise: try to localise it; a mechanics stethoscope is good, or a long screwdriver held against the engine with the...

    P38 'jerking/jolting' on lift-off

Diehard, try running (not too far!) with just front prop on and rear off? This will put all the drive thro the front prop, and, if it is shot will increase noise etc. And take strain off rear. Do you mean this noise started from installation of new rear diff two weeks ago? If so surely this is...

    P38 'jerking/jolting' on lift-off

Datatek, go get another cuppa inside yourself. Running with no front prop, will not put any strain on the VC. The front and rear outputs will be running at same speed, so the VC will be doing no work. The VC will only be working when front and rear are at different speeds.

    Orange suspension light on dashboard

Could have done with a new thread. AND it`s been covered loads already... But since I`ve a fresh coffee here: About a day`s work. (first time, lots of breaks). Possible single handed but easier with 2nd pair of hands to get shell in/out of car. Get all old glue off shell or you`ll be doing...

Advice on 20" rims fitted to my Disco......

Better drive slow over pot-holes, speed bumps, cat`s eyes, etc to avoid damage.... Disco will handle it...but wheels won`t... Sell `em ebay, buy a proper set of wheels and enjoy a few pints on the profits!

Advice on Winter Tyre and Wheel package

I don`t know of any packages so guess you`ll just have to trawl the net to find the best option... (that`s your Sunday taken care of!). I`d imagine s-hand wheels with new tyres is gonna be cheapest tho. I live in the sticks here, and have about 20km until I get to a well gritted road in...

Always loads of advise here.... but... good???.. Anyway, what are you after? Are you running on roads that`ll be salted and slushy, or virgin snow on country lanes or what?

http://www2.dft.gov.uk/pgr/freight/road/workingtime/drivershoursgoods.pdf This page (12) seems to show that refuse collections aren`t covered by Driver`s Hours Regs. So that may be a blind alley. Anyway, Shocker I really feel for you. As others have said you do need some expert advise here...

    S/S exhausts any recomendations please

I can understand you wanting to get a good quality, not a cheapo piece of kit, but how old is the original exhaust? The originals (not patterns) do last quite a while and you`re not running on salty UK roads there. Can`t comment on Rimmers R-R exhausts but have heard bad reports of their...
