Sounds like an air leak or you have damaged something, not familiar with the 1.8 is it flyby wire or throttle cable??

ECU? Immob? Wiring? What's Gone Wrong?

It worries me that you say you broke down outside your LR specialist and you are having to ask questions about simple (to a specialist) diagnosis on here............

    Freelander thinks it's a helicopter?

Are you sure your rear brakes are working?? Maybe your compensator valve has seized??

    gearbox xdi model

Added some similar info on yer other thread, i just looked at my old box and cannot find any ID marks anywhere, looks like my best bet is to overhaul my old box and remove the chances of another breaker yard monkey sending me another " it'll be alright mate its off a freelander"...

    A lesson on patient 101

A bit more info the Petrol version is a S4EM 4.2 Final drive ratio The diesel is a S7EMU 3.6 Final drive and uprated internals ( hence why my petrol box is really starting to groan now!!) A lesson on patient 101

Sorry to disagree but i know for a fact that they are not the same ratio..... I HAD THE SAME ISSUE! Haynes, although a great general reference, has made mistakes..... I got the ratios from RAVE and they are definately different. Sorry i should be more accurate and state the gearbox ratios are...

    gearbox xdi model

The problem is they are identical from the outside, and i can't see that the ird would cause this.... my max speed in 5th is 90mph at 4500rpm if this helps. I did post up about this issue some time ago, and there are the mph per rpm values somewhere....

    gearbox xdi model

Hmmm, sounds like you have swapped the petrol box for a ...... petrol box. I fitted a "diesel box" at the beginning of the year, the dumb assed breakers yard assumed it was a diesel box that is because it was in fact a petrol box. Accelerates really nice but is too low a geared for motorway...

    freelander help please!!

Sounds like a Disco would be a far better vehicle for you, you are asking a lot of the freelander towing that weight legally or not. Stick the FLander on ebay you'll get a few quid back spare or repairs.

    Front left Suspension clunk

Is the ARB central with the collars against the bushes, the roll bar can sometimes float and hit other components, for the cost of new bushes and droplinks it's worth just changing them.

    What a b*****d of a job!!

Could be worse you could have gone through all that and put a 1.8 petrol box in your 2.0 L series like i did..... Ebay gotta love it:rolleyes: On the plus side its got great low range now, low range for off road and fuel economy!! But goes like a scalded cat.....

    Vcu torque test

Hmmmm, vcu held in vice with 24mm socket on spline. You have to be very careful when posting results MAX reading i had was about 90 lbsft MIN reading i could get by being very gentle was around 15lbsft. Obviously the VCU responds to torque input the higher the torque in the more it applys to...

    Banging on cornering

Be careful, i assumed my vcu bearings were gone, but it turned out the banging was caused by being in rwd only, the splines had sheared inside the final drive carrier in my gbox.
