Sorry to be letting you guys down with the spectacle and all :D Sunday turned into a mess on the scheduling side for me. I am still game if/when there is another outing there or anywhere else in the neighbourhood!

Guys, I can't do Sunday any more  I am going to have take a rain check and hope you decide another visit is called for. I am available on Saturday or Monday, if anyone wants to do a pre- or post-recce there?

Cheers, Carpy - hopefully all that extra power won't be needed! I am to roar through the mud and not get stuck! Booger, I appreciate the offer of a wheel wash. Plenty of dirt still to shift despite the rain on the weekend!

Okeydokey, that explains the dog issues :D And a few other things..... So you could probably cobble together a full 4x4 recovery sled team then?

The hitch-hikers could be useful pushing me out too! Do you have any big enough dogs that could be roped in as huskies to pull too? Why not bring the dogs or even just leave them on their own? I presume they fend for themselves when you're at work? Oh, and good luck with the nympho ;) As...

I agree on the taller, narrower tyres - my comment about weight is that narrower tyres will give better traction in mud than fatter ones. Wide tyres look nice and have their uses but they do give greater rolling resistance (heavier fuel consumption) and don't work as well as narrow tyres in mud...

Oops - my bad! I meant to ask if it was the tyres that are the weak link in your off-road performance! I hear you on the £££ for tyres - just shelled out for 5 Kumhos a month ago! Are you running 15" or 16" rims? The 285/75R16 are 33" which I saw you make some reference to. I'm...

I'm sure the weight will get it to the bottom! We'll have to see what happens from there.... I see you're looking for new tyres on the Herts thread - is what's holding you back???

I also need to install my CB - just waiting for the antenna and mount to come. Keep us posted on how you get on, once you've learnt by trial & error on your truck you can assist on mine :p

I am in - if my wife & kids aren't coming, I'm happy to spoil a few hitch-hikers with a comfortable ride in the Cruiser :D

Sorry I missed your "moment of glory" :D Having seen the vid, was it a problem of lack of power or lack of grip??? I'm working on joining the outing this Sunday with the wife & kids in tow

Tell us more! Sounds like you found some more challenging terrain after we left then?

x 2! Many thanks to Carpy for an excellent job navigating to the various lanes and saving the day! Thanks to the rest of the group for having the Land Cruiser along - no doubt those driving behind were grateful for me widening the road by removing all the twigs and branches! :D Thoroughly...

    Surrey greenlanes?

I am keen for Sunday, doubt I can do Saturday eve although it sounds good :D. What's the drill for Sunday? What time, meeting place, how long do you expect to be out for etc? Cheers, DZ

Bugger - I only saw this yesterday afternoon, otherwise I would have been up for it for sure! Assuming that a lumbering land cruiser wasn't going to upset the crowd :D How was the outing then?

Ok, that should be a nice size for general use! Funnily enough the only time I notice any noise on them is at low speeds as they "speed" up. At cruising speeds, the wind noise masks them. Have fun with them today!

Nice tyres!!! :clap2: What size did you get? 285/75? I think you'll be very happy with them AND they're quiet on-road! I found they out-performed Cooper STTs and BFG MTs (same size/same vehicle/same route) in some slippery clay/mud on a challenging off-road course. I'll be interested to hear you...

    Surrey greenlanes?

I have been watching this thread waiting for the next outing! My mods are coming along slowly - got myself some MTs obviously  The road tyres were bloody awful - went shooting in the Cotswolds about a month back and had to navigate through a few freshly ploughed fields and I was slipping...

    Surrey greenlanes?

If that's your shortlist, it'll be Kumhos then! BFG MTs are rarer than hen's teeth at the moment. You're not going to find any at AJS unless you're looking for an odd size and they happen to have some lying in the back. When I popped in there a month ago, they had literally 1 or 2 BFGs and were...

I need to learn the basics, what is my best bet?

Thanks for all the generous offers of a tow, guys :D I added some Kumho KL71s to my cruiser yesterday, so hopefully I will be a bit more self-sufficient in future! I am playing with the cruiser-boys this weekend but I'll be joining the Surrey LR crew for some lanes soon
