P38A Going on holiday......What to pack?

Well guys, thanks for all of the suggestions. I won't follow all the advice, otherwise I'll be towing another Rangey, covered in beer, stopped at customs for carrying a bowie knife, and claiming on the health insurance to get the duck tape removed from the wifes mouth. On our way in the morning...

P38A Going on holiday......What to pack?

I like the idea of carrying tyre sealer for airbag emergencies. Did you apply it direct into the airbag, or take the pipe from the valve block and spray it down the pipe to the offending bag?

Thought about that - but those channel tunnel people wanted to charge me double:D Good photo Data - is this how you usually get around the French countryside?

P38A Going on holiday......What to pack?

Yep, forgot to mention I have tow strap (and jump leads). Also got 2 tubes of quick steel and a pack of milliput - so should the need arise, I can cast and sculpt myself a new engine block. I think a tub of swarfega might be better than wet wipes.

To be fair, the compressor stays in the car at ALL times - not just holidays.

P38A Going on holiday......What to pack?

No, that's not a problem. We're going to stop for a break after every 9 miles of driving - cup of tea, running repairs - and off we go again.

Not sure we'll have room after packing the P38 spares. I have changed the pollen filters, and I can smear myself with silicone grease.

P38A Going on holiday......What to pack?

Got me flip flops, shorts and sun block.....that was the easy bit. Off to Italy (Lake Garda) in a few days. The reason I'm asking what to take is that we're driving there in the 21 year old P38 4.6. Now, I don't need to take a spare engine as this one's only done 176,000 miles, so only just run...

    P38A Tailgate rubber seal

Petroleum jelly only degrades real rubber (made from rubber tree). Modern 'rubber' seals and 'o' rings are made from polymers i.e. neoprene etc - so vaseline is fine to use. Suppliers often recommend using it when fitting new 'o' rings for example.

Wallet attack and splitting headache are my usual symptoms.

    P38A Tailgate rubber seal

Funnily enough I used my trusty pot of vaseline around the whole seal, which made a difference. 'Rubber', 'Vaseline' - feel like this belongs on a different forum.

    P38A Tailgate rubber seal

Update time. Bent the corner flange (just the right side) out just a couple of mm with me big pliers (I think the recommended was 5mm but didn't go that far). Refitted the old seal and washed the car with the hose pipe from all angles. Hoorah! No leak/dripping water. Once again I've missed the...
