    Swivel pin housing retaining bolts

Success!;) As suggested, got rid of the rust, lots of oil, brass rod and hammer to shake the bolts and then some heat (blowlamp). The bolts are 14mm and the only way I got them to move was to place a hydraulic jack under the spanner and gently raise the jack, it worked;) . no sheared bolts or...

    Swivel pin housing retaining bolts

My 1992 Disco Tdi has never had its swivel pin housing bolts removed. So, they are a bit  corroded... Having acquired all the metric and imperial sockets I thought I would need, I now see that these are 12 point bolts and not the usual 6 point!:( And as they are a bit corroded I...

    Disco 1 - Brakes

Good point and yes I am. However, the Haynes manual does not deal with the 3 bleed screws on the front calipers so I followed the Service Manual which has the proper sequence and this improved matters but still not perfect. However, there is play in the front bearings and this will be the next...

    Disco 1 front wheel bearings

Problems getting the brakes to work properly may be due to worn front wheel bearings (1992 Disco 1 with 103,000 miles on the clock) - see earlier thread about my brake problems. How can I tell if the bearings need to be changed? I have not noticed any extra bearing noise or felt any...

    Disco 1 - Brakes

Bled the brakes with the engine running, definitely better but I can still floor the brake pedal on the first push, so I will now have a go at the wheel bearings...

    Disco 1 - Brakes

I have been refurbishing the brakes (Disco 1 - no ABS, nice and simple, or so I thought!:o ). All calipers stripped down, cleaned and painted (:D ), new seals, new pistons, new bleed screws, new master cylinder, new flexible hoses, new pads. Fixed brake pipes have been replaced before and are...

Disco 1 - No rear brakes!

I checked the pipe connections. I think they are correct (that is, the primary circuit connections on both front calipers go to the same holes on each side, but I could have the primary and secondary circuit connections swopped but it would be the same on both sides (Haynes and the LR Workshop...

Disco 1 - No rear brakes!

My 1992 Disco has been off the road for 5+ years. Before getting it back on the road, I have overhauled the brakes, stripped down and cleaned the calipers, fitted new pistons, new seals and new bleed screws. I have renewed brake master cylinder. I have bled the brakes, no air comes out...

Definitely front, back ones are fine.

    Front brake mudshield

On my 92 Disco the front brake mudshields (they seem to protect the disks from the worst of the muck) are rotting away and I feel I should replace them. Has anyone any idea what they are called, part number etc.? Are they really needed? All my on-line searches have not located them.

    Steering Box Replacement

The biggest problem is the weight of the steering box (15kg). Getting the old one out is relatively easy but getting the replacement back in is easier if you can get someone to help. Recon steering boxes are £150-£200.
