    The Beast is back but...

we've no idea how old your cooling system is and when or if any components have been replaced or if there has ever been any anti freeze used in it (antifreeze is also a rust inhibitor) so the cooling could have a sticky thermostat, blocked tubes in the radiator, a very tired waterpump with most...

    Hood sticks

only the rear and centre hoop are the same, the side rails are different as is the front hoop the front hoop has lugs to bolt the door frame bits to it and the full tilt side rails are a little longer than the 3/4 tilt rails

Inherited Series 2a Project, what do we think?

the only thing i'd do beside change any fluids (oils water etc') is get at the discs to sand/wire mop them to remove the rust and pull the rear brake drums off to clear any rust from the inside of those along with inspect the shoes and brake pads as long as all the lights/wipers work it's then...

Inherited Series 2a Project, what do we think?

do NOT get swapping carbs ... the guy that built this truck obviously knew what he was doing and has probably put on a carb suited to the engine and vehicle in general, the only problem you may face (in my opinion) will possibly be the need to clean it out and fit a new inline filter as to mpg...

Inherited Series 2a Project, what do we think?

very nice :) i'd be doing no more to that than cleaning the rust off the brakes, a full service of all oils and maybe a little rust prevention (wire brush and paint) it looks to be in really good condition from these new photos, it was obviously built to be used by someone that knew what they...

how to find out wot suffix you got

i'll guess you're talking about your gearbox (which along with the engine could have been changed at any time) Series 2a gearboxes have it stamped on the side of the top cover, 8 or 9 numbers and then the Suffix under those if there is no Suffix letter then you most likely have a Series 2...

Series 2a - Any idea of value

it certainly can't be any worse than a P38 (lovely car to drive but a never ending supply of faults :rofl:i'd still like another in some ways ) the 109 is the best size to own for space and comfort as the length and weight stops it behaving like a ping pong ball, i own both an 88" and 109 and...

Series 2a - Any idea of value

definitely a 2a bulkhead, possibly a genuine ex-military vehicle (bonnet catches and what looks like holes for door buffers in the wings) along with what looks like a military crossmember and bumpers, i would hazard a guess at underseat fillers for the tank(s) as i can't see a filler point...

    TD5 cutting out

i've got a problem with a 2001 TD5 Disco, every now and then it's cutting out as i slow down/stop, it's steadily been getting worse/more frequent and it's now starting to get harder to start after having cut out and i'm having to crank the engine longer and pump the accellerator pedal... any...

    Straight 6 rebuild

that was it's primary purpose, it was also to ensure i didn't extend or shorten the chassis rails when i cut the rot away and rebuilt them before reattaching my new crossmember i didn't buy one with extensions as i wanted as near as possible to perform an invisible repair

    Engines and gearboxes???

my disco 200tdi owners handbook states 40mpg is attainable, i'll guess that is driven sedately and not towing, that did surprise me quite a bit my 200tdi engined 88" bitsa has got close to 40mpg driven sedately on 7.50 SAG crossply tyres, 3.54 diffs and no overdrive, mpg will vary between...

    Straight 6 rebuild

lifted it on my engine hoist using the tailgate chains at the rear and a forklift under the front of the roof if i'd have needed to i'd have jacked it up on the chassis until i could have slid a couple of scaffold poles/boards under and sat it on four 45gallon drums so i could roll the chassis...

    Straight 6 rebuild

i built a jig on my chassis that bolted to the tabs on the crossmember and to four points on the chassis, i bolted the metal for the jig down then welded it together before touching the crossmember with an angle grinder but i did lift off the 109 tub complete with roof and sides

    Just bought a series

i'd just grab a pair of standard 88" rover axles rather than messing about rewelding spring perches back in the correct place, they turn up often enough and cheap enough
