I don't think the wheel size is your issue. I reckon it's more to do with your tyres. Maybe consider a tyre with a more aggressive tread pattern on them.

Think 17's are too big matey and I think 16's are probably the biggest you'll get. I bought a second hand set of 16's for about £130 on Guntree and are sitting ready for a set of AT2's or similar to be fitted soon (probably punt the 17's after that).

Oofft, that ain't right! I get between 450-470 miles out of my tank (manual TD4).

Hi Chaps There's a second hand set of 16" Freelander alloys that are at a good price and I'm thinking of buying in order to put some all-terrain tyres on, in place of my 17" alloys on my 2005 Td4 (mainly during the winter months). I know there are some issues (?) with putting older alloys on...

I get about 50-60 miles less on a tank compared to milder times of the year. I've just put it down to the cold weather (heater in full blast, rear window demister, slower speeds, lights always on, lower gears etc)
