    Auxiliary belt tensioner

Charles is absolutely right! The only problem with a self-tensioning( if a word like that exists) belt, if sprayed with WD40 it will slip even more on a cold morning. The only difference is that you wouldn't hear it slipping. On the old vee-belt motors you could tighten the belt and spray you...

    Auxiliary belt tensioner

Thanx for pointing that out Dave. We wouldn't want the guy to blow a headgasket while trying to sort out a squealing noise!

    Auxiliary belt tensioner

Hi Reeflodge Remove the aux belt (sure you know by now how to do that). Start up your Hippo, should the noise persist then its not any of the pulleys thats been driven by the the belt. With the belt off, check the alternator and powersteering pump by spinning them too and checking for...

    Auxiliary belt tensioner

Hi, to locate the tensioner on the L-series is fairly easy. Turn your steering all the way to the right. If you sit next to right front wheel and look at your engine should see it. Its a small pulley that can be removed without loosening any bolts or removing any covers. The tensioner is spring...

    Oh Well..

Shot in the dark here! Mate of mine had a BMW 325tds with a similar problem. Did all the necessary test with no joy at all. Eventually found out that his exhaust system was blocked hence the lack of revs. What baffles me is where the white smoke came from?? I blew the turbo on my...

    clutch problems

Hi Had the same problem. The shaft that goes through the bellhousing which operates the clutch fork becomes very sticky. Mine ceased up and I couldn't operate the clutch. Lubricate the shaft where it goes into the gearbox, not an easy job but worth the try.

Morning All, more alloy size queries on FL1

My sparewheel is still a 195/80/15. In height its exactly the size of the 205/70/15. The mini vans here now comes standard with 205/70/15 which makes it a very popular on-road tyre and readily available.

Who's the oldest hippo of them all?

Mines a 2000 2L diesel, 5 door with 259 000km(162k miles) on the clock, snapped an IRD one month after I bought it. Got it two years now with no problems. One month left on the warranty and I need to claim.

Is clutch meant to be so heavy?

Had the same problem. This happen after fitting a new clutch kit. You have to start at the gearbox and work your way up. The shaft that operates the clutch fork becomes very sticky which in turn causes strain on the slave cylinder bracket when you apply the clutch. The bracket bends which means...

Morning All, more alloy size queries on FL1

Hi Evertonian Boy I live out in South Africa and was told that you cannot interchange wheels between FL1's. I'm not really sure about that but I fitted 205/70/15 tyres to my rims and it looks very nice. I took it off road and never felt it touching the bodyworks.
