Is it possible to take the the vac pump off the engine and run the engine to see if the noise stops

When I left scotland I had a needles width more than 3 quarters of a tank of diesel. When I got home, I had exactly half a tank by the gauge. I don't think there is anything wrong with the gauge, but I could be wrong. I'm going to peterborough next weekend so might fill it up and see what I get...

came back from my holiday at Wemyss bay in scotland today back to South shields and i got 180 miles from just over a quarter tank of diesel. took my time, kept between 50 - 60 mph. has anyone else got this type of mpg from there car. n reg 300tdi manual disco.

I think i will go with a p38. If i have trouble with the suspension, i will fit a spring kit, drive it nice and easy, service it regular read up on any electrical faults that could happen and just prey i can find a nice one:)

done my fuel pump today and makes a real difference. done all the changes in one go, screw under cap 1 turn, diaphram 1/4 turn and the large wheel 1 turn. cant see any smoke so i think i could go a little more but its realy good as it is:D:crazy_driver:

no, only had the brake light fault which took 10 mins to fix

took my disco for MOT today. didnt realy know what to expect but only needed a new bulb for off side rear brake light. so another year with my disco, really happy:D

the damper is held on with 3 bolts. easy to put back on

the part that has come loose is not the viscous coupling but the damper that bolts on to the viscous coupling. just get it bolted back on nice and tight. to check the coupling, take car to an empty car park, put a chalk line through the damper and viscous coupling. drive car on full lock a few...

while driving back from work the other day, disco started to loose power for no aparent reason. got home, stopped it, went to start and took ages to re-start. looked in engine bay and found the priming lever on feul pump had snapped off. lucky i kept old pump and put that back on. broken pump...

hardest part was getting back to bare metal, quite a bit of rust around the seams

had a bit of rot on the rear sills, so cut it out and welded some plate in. some before and after pics. only rotten on the rear ends, so only replaced those bits.

while coming home from work tonight, the steering went funny on my disco. braked as usual and car pulled to the left, let off brakes and steering wheel is over to the left when car is going straight ahead. after going around a few bends the wheel is straight again. then the same thing happens...

bought a 24mm nut and used it as a lock nut on the origional one. lets see what happens now.
