    Freelander leaking oil?!

No visible sign from looking at the top and side of the engine from the top, only signs of a leak is from bellow, and the left hand side of the engine. Whats the average labour involved in a sump gasket change anyway? Still find it hard to believe it could leak after a new gasket was fitted...

    Freelander leaking oil?!

It looks dark black oil, just the same as the oil seen from checking the dipstick level hance my conclusion being engine oil, the garage could not take the whole cover off underneath but from what they could briefly see pointed towards sump gasket, that the reason I asked if it is from there...

    Freelander leaking oil?!

Cheers buddy, assuming it is leaking from the sump gasket, does that mean a new gasket needs to be fitted (if so whats the approx cost) or will changing the filter stop it leaking from the sump gasket all togeather and resolve the leak??

    Freelander leaking oil?!

How does the BMW part fit, does it come with a new housing or is it just a special filter that is placed in the existing housing? If so can both that and the turbo filter be replaced by myself or a complete novice or shall just wait till it's in at the garage and just give them the parts to...

    Freelander leaking oil?!

Many thanks for the excellent response lads, much appreciated!! A couple of questions, if no oil is coming out of dipstick and filler cap am I to still assume that that crankcase filter needs changing and is the cause of leak from possible sump gasket? I ask because the first thing my local...

    Freelander leaking oil?!

The garage that changed the pistion rings said that they noticed oil in the intercooler that they thought was going back in to the engine or may being used by the engine or a discription if that sort (sorry but not a car man at all). However I have not noticed any odd smoke therefore I need to...

    Freelander leaking oil?!

Thanks for the quick response buddy, do you think it is wise to drive the car in this condition as I dont want the engine to suffer if the turbo is pushing in oil and equally with the the obvious leake from prop shaft gaiter?? I take it you assume the sump gasket is okay becuase from the basic...

Sorry to tag along but I've just suffered the same problem last night, my own fault I've done a DIY job on a satnav wired in and an aftermarket DVD stereo and wanted to wire in some rear head rest monitors, there were bare wires all over the place and one in particular a red wire leading to the...

Head Gasket or slipped liner? HELP!

Right then, I've probably flushed the cooling system about 14x now spending yesterday evening and most of today as the stuff I'm going to try wants rid of all coolant. My question is that water thats draining out now is near enough clear and shows a very, very, very light tint of coolant, is...

Head Gasket or slipped liner? HELP!

Hi Guys, thanks for the support! It was spark plug number 8 that had signs of water and a rusty plug! My dad left the spark plug out and told me to turn the engine to make sure and it made a horrible cranking noise and squirted out dark substance, so I guess water is in Cylinder #8, but has it...
