    DSE in-tank pump

Just got my 1999 DSE back from the local diesel specialist in Bridport after it's latest breakdown yesterday. Apparently the in-tank fuel pump is duff, but the actual problem was that a priming bulb had been fitted under the bonnet, presumably because the pump had failed. Unfortunately the...

    Self-fixing 1999 DSE

So, there I was happily driving down the road in my 1999 DSE Auto on the way to the dentist when with no warning the engine just stopped having covered 5 miles since leaving home. As I glided gently to the kerb, the message "Gearbox fault" flashed through the display. Of course it...

    << Airbag Fault >>

Set off on a drive from Slough back to sunny Dorset this pm in my '99 DSE, hadn't driven more than 200 yards when the SRS light came on and the "Airbag Fault" message was displayed. Pulled over, turned the ignition off and then restarted, everything seemed fine for the next 100 miles and then it...

    Number Plates

Dumb question this, but ...... I have to replace the number plates on my '99 P38. The current ones are screwed on with rusty old screws that won't unscrew (heads chewed) so will need to be drilled out. I could possibly break the old plates around the screw heads and get a set of grips on them...

    Finding a decent LR/RR garage

How do I find a decent LR/RR garage in my area. I've only recently moved to just outside Bridport, Dorset and I've chatted to the LR Dealership in Yeovil which seems to be OK and helpful, but I really need an independant garage for purely financial reasons. My local corner garage charges...

My wipers have taken over !

I took my P38 out in the rain for the first time yesterday. I turned the front wipers on (down one click) and away they went as happy as anything. The rain stopped so I turned the wipers off, at this point I was naively believing that I still had some sort of control of them. The wipers of...

Disconnecting the battery on a P38

I have seen nightmare stories of things that have happened to P38's that have had their batteries go flat. There are stories of alarm problems and all sorts of other "quirks" resulting from doing this. I need to remove the ECU on my late '99 DSE, and to do that (sensibly), the battery should...

    P38 Timing Belt

Does the 6 cylinder BMW derived diesel in the P38 have a timing belt that needs changing at regular intervals ? I'm only asking because my newly aquired 1999 P38 DSE has done 90k and there is no indication in the FSH that the belt has ever been changed ......

    P38 Harmon Kardon

My 1999 DSE allegedly has the HARMON KARDON ICE system fitted. Haven't got much of a clue what that means as it looks to my inexperienced eye like any other in car stereo but I guess that's just an indication of my advanced years;) Anyway, back to the important stuff, it doesn't seem to have a...

    Chipping a P38 2.5 diesel

Just recently bought a 1999 P38 DSE auto, with 90k and FSH, didn't meet reserve on eBay so did a deal afterwards. It's got all the external "frills", bull-bar, spots, side-steps, dark-glass, roof bars etc. all of which I could do without, but it hasn't been chipped in any way and so drives a...
