    2wd vs 4wd

Why not go the whole hog and streamline all the cars panel gaps at the front with gaffer tape? Maybe take off the wing mirrors too? Radio ariel? Does that cause drag? Mind that if you have an accident where your car gets assessed by the insurance when it's in mondo mode they won't be best...

landrover Freelander TD4 2004+ haynes manual

I have one, you can have it for the cost of postage and packaging. Pm me if interested and I'll weigh it to get an idea of postage costs. S. Ps mods, I'm not making money on the sale of this, so assume I'm not breaking rules, ive sold on the td4 and the book would otherwise get binned.

Buying a Freelander, what to look out for ?

I have a Td4 Van... 118,000 miles on it, never missed a beat. Anyway, X-trail diesels have their own issues but I understand that the 2.5 petrol is a VERY good engine, and if hes only doing 5k miles a year, difference in fuel wont be that great. Also, the 2.5's are much cheaper than the...

    Its time to say goodbye.....

The time has come to depart... the FL and my other car are been traded in. I collect a Citroen C-crosser later in the week.... yeah yeah I hear, its French and unreliable you cry.... but the 2008 model im buying was made in Japan by Mitsubishi on the same line as the Outlander (and Pug 4007)...

Cruise control - how does it work....?

I would suggest its an aftermarket cruise control system. Try googling to see who makes kits for the FL and see if you can find the right system and mail them. Start at Aftermarket Cruise Control Kits | Conrad Anderson UK Steve

195 tyres OK for the snow?

I use Falken A/T Landairs in 195 size as mentioned. They are M&S rated and are really good in the snow, as well as the mud, lol. Cheap too at about £60 per corner, fitted. Get about 30k out of each pair. Steve

    Hippo 2 wheel drive conversion

Ill ask again....how did your insurance company react when you told them about the change...any increase in policy price? S.

    Hippo 2 wheel drive conversion

How did your insurance companies react to this? were they ok about it? I was led to beleive that when taking the prop off, not to let either end of the prop down without support. The weight of either prop against the VCU could cause damage to the joint. Also told to mark the front prop in...

    AT tyres vs road tyres

That may of been your driving style as well though, not the tyres. Could of been ice under the snow, no tyre is any good on sheet ice! I use Falken LandAir A/t on a 15" steel rim and notice no real difference between that and the Bridgestones that were on before it, other than off road...

    TD4 oil filler cap submerged!

Not sure that drilling a hole is a good idea.... seen posts on here about water getting down to the injectors, sitting there and corroding the area around them meaning they are extra hard to get out. So, when drilling a hole, ensure the water is not going to be draining anywhere near the...

How do you check for worn IRD bearings

If it does turn out to be the VCU bearings then dont get them from a certain BRITish PART supplier.... get GKN or Genuine LR ones (GKN are OEM). I had cheap ones on from the aforementioned supplier and they were noisier than the duff ones they replaced. Subsequently changed to GKN ones and quite...

Does off roading avoid transmission probs?

Someone else mentioned that article quite a while ago.... along the lines of 'either use it or lose it'. Im no expert but I would tend to agree with them although not necessarily off roading that is needed.... been spirited around roundabouts and making the VCU apply drive to the rear wheels...

Urgent cannot undo IRD oil filler plug

One assumes this is why the advice on the forum is to check the fill plug moves before undoing the drain plug?

    Freelander Clutch/DMF

You will only be able to tell when the DMF comes out. If there is any play in it then its recommended to change it while the clutch is been done, along with the slave cylinder. Think its a all day job, so its the labour that costs a lot of money so wouldn't want the DMF to be done at a later...

    Blue Smoke on Start up

FL 04, TD4.... when started it gives out a bit of blue smoke that clears quite quickly and dont seem to see it when running. Any ideas on what that points too, if anything? Steve

    new Freelander owner help!!

No the fake IRD wouldnt affect the three lights, affectionatly known on here as the three amigo's when they are lit up. Do a search for 'three amigos', this is when TC, HDC and ABS lights all show up when the motor is running. Some causes for this are either cheap or free to fix. For instance...

    new Freelander owner help!!

John.... all may not be that bad.... if it is the turbo hose that is causing your problem then is that the car fixed? Or is there any other problems? They are quite easy to work on and parts are quite cheap and with help from here most can be done yourself. They are good motors.... well, most...
