    OEM or Stainless hinges?

    Cheers! Very handy guide

    OEM or Stainless hinges?

I had a go using a pushpin adapter for my drillpress but the amount of force necessary to dislodge the pin was above the level I was comfortable making using my antique equipment that I use to make things out of precious metals. I abandoned that part of the process and vowed to dribble 3-in-1...

    OEM or Stainless hinges?

So just an update - I got the OEM hinges and am painting them 😂

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

So now : I'm going to fit 30mm spacers to the boosts 😂 Can't find tyres I like enough to justify swapping out the Insa Turbos (Michelin Crossclimate variants doesn't come in an 85 sidewall) just yet so I'll just go with the spacers. 🤷‍♀️

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

Might explain the current setup! I bought the HiCap from a tree surgeon off a muddy track behind an old mill 💁‍♀️

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

I am basically "meticulously researching the offset of each different kind of wheel" at this point! I'm running into a lot of conflicting anecdotal evidence. Questions of taste and decency are almost going out the window. The lugs on the Insa's, with the low swing aperture on the hubs and the...

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

I'm definitely in the left hand side of the camp, but I'm really trying to troubleshoot the problem and am not getting a lot of helpful feedback. Boosts seem to have much less offset, so even fitting a lower profile tyre on a 1995 300tdi with Boosts won't definitively prevent rubbing. I've gone...

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

OKAY well I am, after much deliberation, I think going to go down the route of fitting 5x165 to 5x120 adapters (56mm offset increase) with some of the New Defender (L663) steelies, which are 18". Having read about the Boost Alloys it seems like they weren't fitted to the 300tdi, and only when...

    200tdi Defender alloys

Even if the weight remains central the force on the hubs is still magnified by the leverage added by spacers / adapters - Not sure if hubcentrics would diminish the leverage?

    OEM or Stainless hinges?

That's a fair point, I'm looking at the original hinges and they've just ground themselves to dust due to the lack of tribological attention 🙄 316 is actually pretty soft in comparison to mild steel but the polish and finish of the hinges will both hold grease on the pin better and provide less...

    OEM or Stainless hinges?

Well is there a quality difference? What's a "normal" hinge?

    OEM or Stainless hinges?

So this is for the front doors, well, only doors of my 300tdi Hi Cap. I'm looking at replacing the hinges as I've got probably about 12/13mm of travel if I pick the doors up, and the door catch on the inside of the cab is getting thoroughly notched as a result. Passenger side has a noticeable...

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

Okay - Is this a divisive issue? As I've got massive nubs on the outside of the tyre with the Insa's it really shocks me at times how bad it sounds ! I don't want to put any more strain on the bearings as am often crawling over real rough terrain, rocks & tree stumps and the like. Seems like it...

    Spacers to stop tyres rubbing?

So I'm still pretty head down with the 300tdi HiCap - I'm having issues with my Insa Turbos rubbing on the radius arms when in full lock. Having played around with the steering lock stop bolts and having bent every single longer bolt I've installed I'm guessin when the previous owner installed...

Series Steering Wheel on a Defender

Right! That's a great shout, finding wheel + steering column and swapping the lot over isn't something I'd thought of but definitely opens up the project. Am trying to get a solid material wheel as the current c. 1995 wheel is just too flappy and disconnected feeling as the rubber's coming off...

Series Steering Wheel on a Defender

Highly likely, it's new to me but a nut & bolt rebuild on a galvanised Richards chassis. Has a series 2a fuel collar and cap. Have just removed the steps and there were 4 different styles of bolt nyloc'd in place so I imagine it's kind of a bitser.

Series Steering Wheel on a Defender

Anyone tried this or am I out my tree? Steering wheel on my Hi Cap (1995 300tdi) is pretty worn down and I'd like to swap in a Series wheel. Now, I haven't ordered the Series wheel or taken off the Defender wheel. I know it's a "large column diameter B type 48 spline" but I can't find like...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Let out the steering stop bolts to solve the "Insa Turbo rubbing on the radius arm when in full lock" situation, noted they were pretty old and worn so ordered a pair of SS M12s... ...In five different lengths in case the situation is more severe than current bolt length can tolerate

    Exhaust Swap

Thank you all! I have ordered the replacement bits & bolts off of eBay and Paddock's, will be doing the work myself - When the time comes for stainless I will have already done an exhaust swap so will be aware of any pitfalls. Hi Cap has a 2" lift so not hard to get underneath. Thanks again!
