    Diagnosis based on Symptoms please

If you have black smoke, fuel flow is unlikely to be the problem. You don't have enough air flow for the amount of fuel.

    Diagnosis based on Symptoms please

Could be turbo. Check all the vaccum hoses, replace the turbo control solenoid. Made mine ALOT better, my symptoms not as severe as yours but I had the black smoke under heavy load, that's gone now.

    Freelander 1 Front brake squeal

Given the diameter of the discs vs the diameter of the wheel and the weight of the vehicle, they seem rather under-specified. The 2001 mini, for instance (he says, looking outside for an example) is several hundred kilos lighter, with smaller wheels but bigger discs, and the demands on it are...

    Freelander 1 Front brake squeal

Although, if I was given strong evidence that mine are the wrong way around, I really wouldn't be bothered to take them off and refit them.

    Freelander 1 Front brake squeal

I can't believe you've fitted the very same ebay special discs as mine this week. I've had grooved and dimpled discs on another car and, while you can hear the sound they make, it isn't irritating and the brakes feel more "immediate." Which I think will be a good upgrade for the freelander...

What have you done to your Freelander today

    I'm saying Renault 5 (turbo?)!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I have EBC discs on a mini and EBC specify to do it this way...so I did it the same with these cheap ones on the freelander. I should have paid the extra £30 for the EBCs so the orientation would be irrefutable!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I was under the impression the grooves were designed to vent stuff out, not draw it in! I don't know why they have holes.

What have you done to your Freelander today

I fitted new front calipers, discs and pads today. The old sliders were solid and corrosion was merrily working away between the pad friction material and backing plate, giving occasional problems. All done proper now!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I replaced the TD4 turbo boost solenoid. The person who wrote the original sticky post about it taking 15-20 minutes was writing in 2011 and his vehicle can have been at most 10 years old. Mine is 19 years old and it was no fun crawling around in the gravel wrestling with the very reluctant nuts...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front shocks topping out

Mine does the same on one specific hump in the road that I would go through at 40mph usually. The answer has been to gently slow down to 30 while approaching the obstacle and then speed up again. Problem solved!

    Tail door window not working

Just to finish this off, the battery-disconnect-reset worked OK, And the radio was fine (no code needed), but after a week and a short drive with the rear window open, the cab switch for the rear window went awol again. I repeated the reset which brought it back but the implication is that there...

    My 2006 Freelander TD4 Commerical

@Kerlaan Once I'd worked out where the switch was, I found nothing connected to it. There was a connector tucked neatly out of the way behind some fittings on the body nearby that fitted, so I tried it out and the system works perfectly now. It's a very impressive feature. I think the warning...

Freelancer TD4 2005 Fault code cylinder balance controls 0x1613

I had similar when I first had my freelander. I asked a BMW specialist to do the leak-off test (it's a standard procedure and they told me how much it would cost to run the test) which came back with one of the injectors way out of spec and another one a bit leaky but still in spec. Part of...

    Engaging Gear

While not necessarily directly related, changing the gearbox oil in mine made a noticeable difference to the smoothness of shifting. If it hasn't been done for a long time, it's worth doing.

    Tail door window not working

Thanks for following this up! I'll give it a go sometime...... Tell me, did you have to put a security code into your CD player afterwards? I think if so, I will have to get a new one as I don't have any documentation with mine.

    Tail door window not working

Not yet! Did you? I'm worried I'll lose access to my CD player if i disconnect the battery.

    Tail door window not working

I've got a hashtagMeToo, Since I've had the vehicle (nearly a year), the rear wash/wipe doesn't respond and the cab rear window up/down doesn't do anything, but the rear window obliges for opening and closing the taildoor, like it should. I have the three door, and it happens that if I take...

    Freelander 1 Preserving the scarce ! FL1

Freelander 1 doesn't seem so rare at the moment....but this is rare: L-series diesel. Commercial. 50th Anniversary edition. Needs a spot of work! but I doubt anyone will see another. Wish I could have it! bit far away for me. 1997 Land Rover freelander £400 I "decoded" the reg as T797 XAS...
