Starter having trouble with rebuild engine

i will, yes engine turns by hand. Has a heck of a compression though. But nothing weird i presume. Has ran shortly with a fully charged battery and when it just "caught", if you get what i mean. Still turned slow, just happened to fire up. Makes me think there is nothing wrong with the engine per se

Starter having trouble with rebuild engine

The engine is in a test rig. Its not connected to anything else; Ergo, its outside any wiring harness. Im just running starter cables from an external battery to the starter motor.

I could do that yes, what would/should it tell me?

Starter having trouble with rebuild engine

Battery good, voltage no clue. It drains the battery rather quickly though. Maybe a short?

Starter having trouble with rebuild engine

This is the battery i use in my driving landrover. It throws that around fine. I dont think the battery is bad. Earth and positive are just jump leads i connect with the terminal and ground. I wouldnt think that is neccesairily bad?

Starter having trouble with rebuild engine

Rebuild a petrol engine, the starter doesnt like to throw it around. Happens on a charged battery. Took out the ignition so doesnt spark/wrong timing. Bought the starter used, but rebuilt and refreshed. Anyone has any clues? Please see attatched video.

    Intermediate gear interchangability

I did some digging, and found out that the suffix C box began in 63'. Also, my bearings are still of the metal kind (on craddock the metal ones go up untill 64') While the plastic kind of bearings came out of my fitted box. So, am I correct in assuming it wont fit then?

    Intermediate gear interchangability

Gears come from a 2a gearbox suffix C. So, might be different?

    Intermediate gear interchangability

Hi all, I recently broke a tooth off of my intermediate gear in my gearbox. Luckily I had a spare gearbox lying around so i took the gear from that one. Though; they are slightly different. Anyone know if its ok to interchange these two? It doesnt seem like it wont fit. But rather im more...

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

Some bearing pics. thanks for the input! alr id need to check that for sure, thanks. As for the rings, i have some A and B pistons in the engine. Am i correct in assuming that if i want a new fresh set of rings, i should buy 4 sets of standard sized rings? I found this piece of info online...

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

i have the tail, just missing the top. I feel like this is where its all going eventually. Just getting new rings and shoving it in. Taking for granted it might run a bit mucky.

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

I havent reassembled it yet, its all loose parts as of now; so i didnt waste the parts atleast! Yup, seems about 10 thousands indeed. Some new info: For starters; i measured wrongly. The gap isnt 1.8mm; its around 1.15. The remarkable thing is that for the entire bore. its 1.15. Give or take...

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

Ah dangit, i really hoped i could avoid bringing it to a shop. Takes a nice cheap engine to a more expensive thing. ill use the trick of putting the rings at the bottom where there is no wear. Nice once. There is a small ridge at the top, yes. Any opinions on just rolling with it as it is...

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

@kermit_rr i will check, it is likely that its pretty round. Since i put it in already at 90 degrees, and i know that it moves similarly when in correct orientation. This would mean the cilinder is at fault? what are the remedies to this? I took the engine apart as a revision, i got it for a...

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

please see these videos of the piston slap from above and below. I can conlude that from the bottomside, there is little to no movement. On the top side, the piston seems to rock a little more with the pivot point being the piston rings. Maybe im opportunistic, but doesnt that mean that there...

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

Let me run down to the shed to check :D

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

OEH, good question; id need to check that. Would that be with all the rings installed and the bottom portion of the piston slapping/pivoting? Or with a "bare" piston, and see how much room there is from piston to cylinder wall along its entire side?

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

yes, i put the rings into the bore as shown in the workshop manuals. Then I measured the gap. Consider my first picture of the original post as an example, just with some feeler guages in the gap! :)

Ring gap, new rings? Or new pistons?

Ok, i have measured the ring gap. This is around 1.8mm. So thats pretty much far out of spec. I dont have the tools readily available to measure the bore accurately. According to these values, can any conclusion already be made?
