    Underside protection on Discovery 1

@lynall Thanks for your advice, i did wonder about the suspension. The previous owner used to take it to portgual offroading but there are no markings to tell what they could be. You might be right. The ECU, I suppose i could make it a waterproof box and seal it up? One of my family suggested...

    Disco 2 1/2 chassis replacement.

@Daviehilltown Nice to meet you, sorry to hear about the rust. It's hard to tell without pictures but it might be you can get someone to weld in these chassis plates or leg for you? Any mobile welder near you might fit them for you? The below might do the trick and get you out of an expensive...

    Underside protection on Discovery 1

@lynall i did wonder about that and was debating upgrading to heavy suspension kit to give it extra strength and or bigger wheels to raise the diff height. I did put 1 ton in the boot of wood and it hardly moved but I have never owned one before so i don't know if thats normal or not. The only...

    Underside protection on Discovery 1

@300bhp/ton Rocks mainly, but also if it needs to be driven in water you never know what could scrape or hit the underside and cause damage. The farm land we have looks like a war zone as a utility company replaced a massive pipe. The last one failed. Lands not safe to drive over it yet...

    Underside protection on Discovery 1

Thanks for your reply, i was looking at rock silders but was thinking i wanted to rebuild the sills first. Some i noticed we weld on and others bolt. The sump guard is a good shout, i was struggling to find one for the D1 though, unless i make a custom aluminimum / Steel one. I can find the...

    Advice on Leaky Swivels

Sorry for the radio silence on here i wanted to update you all quickly. I filled up the swivel and it still leaks albeit slowly, It's hard to work out how long the oil would last. It does look like the seal might have gone its trickling down the bottom sidewall. Next weekend I'll need to take...

    Advice on Leaky Swivels

@robbie the greatl Thanks for the advice, i watched a video on youtube last night doing something similar. @discool its funny you mention that on one of the land rover sites i saw something similar like a CV joint gater that would work the same for the swivel.

    Underside protection on Discovery 1

Hey all, What underside protection hardware do you use? Or anything you have custom made? I have D1 300tdi 97 EDC front and rear diff guards and adding a rear tank guard. But wondered if there was any other underside protections that would be advised? Thanks, Ben

HELP!!! engine overheating - at the end of my tether!

@timbr00 the water / coolant just sits there or did with mine. I just ripped it all out to be sure to allow it to dry. It will only rust the floor pan and store up drama for a later MOT. Have you tried bypassing the Heater yet? The pipe joinner i mentioned in my earlier post was the larger one...

    Advice on Leaky Swivels

@Dr Strangeglove I agree that was something that concerned me, I've done a few classic cars and the bolts snap easily, I'm simialr to you i either replace or renew as i go. I was looking at replacing all the lines and planned on doing them in due course but i do take on board. My thinking was i...

    Advice on Leaky Swivels

@Stanleysteamer what brand do you used for Freeze off? I've never had much joy with some of the brands unless I use map gas and spray it on but always been reluctant incase of fire. Plus Gas works well but in a real pinch ATF and Acetone that works a trick on really bad bolts. I did find a...

    Advice on Leaky Swivels

@tilly2 Thanks it might be the best option then, I agree on doing jobs in the summer it's alot better idea. I once did a fuel tank while led in Diesel and water in December never again! Family member split tank on a rock on the farm. Thanks, Ben
