Disco 1 Most optimal way to replace the heater matrix in 200TDI

Hi all! After some fun off-road all my coolant leaked and the engine got some temp. Turned out that one of the heater matrix endings is broken: Not sure how that happened but anyway - I need a new heater matrix. I tried to find some instructions on the web on how to replace it but no luck...

    Will a transfer case from RRC 3.9 V8 fit into D1 200TDI?

Will a transfer case from RRC 3.9 V8 with automatic transmission fit into D1 200TDI with manual transmission? If so, what modifications need to be done?

Disco 1 Blower blowing nicely just on one side

Hi! I have a Disco 200TDI from 1992 and when I turn the blower on I hear the air blowing pretty strong somewhere on the right side of the car but there is little or no noise on the left side. And on the right side the air is blowing pretty nicely whereas on the left side almost no air is coming...

Classic Revs to high, no reaction to gas in 300tdi

Hi, I started my RRC with 300tdi (manual pump) after a long break. The revs are too high and the car does not respond at all neither to gas pedal nor to the linkage at the pump. It's as if something is locked in one position. Is there some kind of pin near the pump that can give such an effect...

Classic Mystery connector under the steering wheel

Hi all! My brother is swapping the engine in RRC from 1991 (model year is 1992 I think) from 3.9 V8 to 300TDI. There is one connector left from the old harness that we have no clue about - where it should go on what it is for. Any ideas?

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

Small update. You were right from the beginning - I should've bought another alternator ;) I changed the bearings and then realized that the rotor is touching the stator as it rotates... I will buy an alternator from 300TDI and do a swap. I heard it's just a matter of replacing the pulley. Thank...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

This is an interesting part! I noticed that the winding has been broken by the voltage regulator. You can see the wear on it: But I don't really get why it happened. All the parts at the top of the alternator seem to be in place and in quite a good shape. I mean the bearings suck and I will...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

Just one question out of curiosity. How could the winding break just like that? I guess it was soldered poorly?

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

I did the diode test with the alternator off and they seem to be fine - above 500 in one direction (multimeter's black wire touching alternator's B+ and multimeter's red wire touching alternator's body) and no value in the other direction (wires swapped).

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

True, that's the plan. I will solder the wire and let you know if it's charging now :)

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

True, the wiring doesn't look well. Thanks a lot for your help, I'm glad I got to it finally!

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

I can take it to a specialist but I was really hoping to do it by myself... Just for satisfaction :) I took out the alternator and opened it. I was pretty sure I have a Lucas alternator but turned out its Magneti Marelli. But it looks exactly like Lucas A127-65. Both producers did identical...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

I did the test. And yes, the light came on! So the bulb is fine. Now why doesn't it come on normally? I also did a test of the diode pack as explained in the film below (starting at around 5:30). This tests whether the current flows in just one direction. In my case I did not disconnect the...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

One more thing. Yesterday I noticed that the clock is slow. It's working but it's not showing the right time. And fuse nr 14 is the one responsible for, among others, the clock. I will have to take a look at the fuse box and the wires below the steering wheel. The thing is that I have some...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

So the brushes are under the silver cover with 3 bolts? I was wondering what's there. Sorry for my ignorance - I would really love to know more about car mechanics and electronics but there is still a long way ahead of me... :) I checked the wires which are outside, the voltage is there...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

I checked the earths, they all are ok. I took off the heat cover and got a better look at the alternator. I noticed that the one white wire which was hanging is coming out of the D+ slot so I figured this is where the yellow-brown wire should be connected. I connected it as in the picture...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

Thanks a lot. I'm leaving for a couple of days now but once I'm back I'll figure out what the problem is and let you all know here. Cheers!

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

Ok, thanks for all the answers! Let me summarize it to make sure that I got it. With the warning light wire (brown-yellow) connected to the alternator, the alternator would get "excited" right after starting the engine. When the wire is disconnected, however, the light never comes on and I need...

Disco 1 Alternator does not charge, warning light does not come on

That's what I thought too BUT I have a video of a cold start of my Disco from December where the light did not come on at all but the alternator was charging (I could tell my the voltage which was over 14V). This probably means that someone changed something in the original wiring? Proof...
