    Piston Ring Gap Positions - 1985 LR90 2.25 Petrol

Cheers for that. I'd read stuff about all on thrust side, all not on thrust side, not inline with Conrod, not inline with gudgeon pin!!!!! I thought it couldn't be that difficult or technical! Mine have 3 rings - top, middle and oil ring.

    Piston Ring Gap Positions - 1985 LR90 2.25 Petrol

Afternoon all I have an early LR90 with a 2.25 petrol 5MB engine. It's RHD. I've had the engine out and stripped down to try and solve a couple of issues and I'm now putting it back together but I've read conflicting things regarding piston ring gap orientation? Can anyone help? Taking it that...

    Crank Seal Leak - 2.25 Petrol 90

Hi all I have a 1985 2.25 Petrol Land Rover 90 which seems to have developed a Rear Crank Main Seal leak. It was only quite minor to start with so I've been managing with it for a while. However, now it's leaving a small oil puddle even when parked up and I'm having to regularly top up the oil...

Permanent Live even with ignition off?

Hi all Thanks for the responses. One of the screws was missing that holds the switch in place. Must have worked it's way out. I got a new switch anyway and fitted it and all seems good so far but I'll let you know if there's any more issues. I had a good check of the loom behind the dash and...

Permanent Live even with ignition off?

🤣🤣🤣 Cheers. I'll give it a go. Been messing around with it for most of afternoon and is seems to be ok at the mo. But the but at the back where the connectors attach seems quite loose.

Permanent Live even with ignition off?

Hi all I have an early 1985 LR90 with 2.25 Petrol Engine. The car was fine this morning driving to work but when I came out it had developed the following problem: Problem: With ignition off and key out the Battery Light and Oil Light remain on and the electronic petrol pump continually primes...

    Ballast issue

Hi It was a ballasted system when I bought it in 2013. I had no clue about these things back then so I bought the standard coil before I knew any different but it ran like crap. After doing some research I realised it was a ballasted system due to how the wiring was connected to the coil. I...

    Ballast issue

If it's there it's bloody well hidden. A few years ago I had the whole dash off to refurbish it and couldn't see any sign of it. I'll have another dig about. Cheers

    Ballast issue

Hi Shippers Thanks for that. I'll check it out. I just can't find the actual resistor and I understand that it can just be a wire. I wasn't sure if it was wired differently. The wiring diagrams I have are all for standard systems and checked against my wiring I can't find an extra wire where you...

    Ballast issue

Just an update. I changed the spark plugs to from cooler BPR5ES to BPR6ES and she's running fine at the mo. Still bubbling at the exhaust though but I think that may be a manifold issue. Still really need to find where the ballast wire runs to from the coil. Can't see it anywhere in the fuse...

    Ballast issue

Hi all In a bit of a nutshell, I have a 1985 2.25 petrol 90. It's had a few running issues lately mainly relating to fueling and carb issues. I changed jets, etc. And it started running better, just a bit of bubbling at the exhaust which no end of tuning and adjustment would get rid of. So I...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Hi Tom. Hope all is good across the pond in Canada? Sorry for the late response. I ended up buying new jets which seems to have sorted that problem out. However, now it's started with other issues and is back off the road. Thanks for the advice though. Ref the diaphragm, I did change that one...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Hi again all I'm just adding to this thread again as I'm encountering a similar issue again but nothing I've done so far has resolved it. As a reminder it is an early 90 with a 2.25 Petrol 5MB engine. The Problem: Engine dies or hesitates badly on initial acceleration and kangaroos in low revs...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Hi pal. I stripped it back down again and checked the float gap. The gap seemed fine but it looked to me like the float might have been dropping too far allowing all the fuel to drain out before it had chance to refill. I adjusted the tab at the back of the float so it didn't drop as far. After...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Damn it! I was so confident too! Managed to take her out today. Got a bit further than before with no issues then.....lost power during acceleration and lumpy. It totally stalled at one point. I disconnected the solenoid again and it ran but I had to get passed the initial dead spot and keep...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Afternoon all Managed to have another tinker today. Changed the coil but no change which I kind of expected to be fair. Just a wild shot in the dark!!! Stripped the carb down again. Float height was fine but the float drop seemed excessive. So I adjusted the tab at the back so it didn't drop as...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Oh well. Success short lived! Back to the original problem. Drove beautifully this morning until it got to temp then hesitated, dead spots and poor acceleration. Popped bonnet, vacuum arm still in place. Disconnected solenoid, drove ok but not quite as smoothly. So I'll strip it back down again...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

Hi The carb was leaking in places so I bought a kit and replaced some of the parts. Didn't strip it completely down, only replaced things that I thought needed it. Got back to it before and had another good look under the bonnet. Low and behold the vacuum arm at the back of the carb had come...

    Carburettor float vent solenoid issue

I've stripped it down that many times over the past few days I can pretty much do it blindfold but I'll have another crack at it. Just seem to be heading around in circles now! Bloody thing!
