    Gear Linkage Rod Problem

Mine fell apart last week, so I thought I'd give this suggestion a try. I had to open up the clip by pushing it over some 10x20mm flat bar and squeezing it in the vice (the clip on the left in first picture). Then I cut two rebates on the ball joint with an angle grinder. The clip sits quite...

    Back to 4x4 Questions

Interesting. Did LR deliberately make the diff ratios different or was it an oversight?

    Back to 4x4 Questions

There's no economy gain in removing the prop because the rear wheels are still turning the rear diff over. You'd need freewheel hubs on the back to see a benefit. I'm not sure the tyres need to be identical all round- isn't the viscous coupling there to accommodate different travel distances...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Yesterday I dragged mine into our garage as it is currently immobile due to a broken gear linkage. I have a cheap hand winch bolted to the workbench for this purpose. The drive slopes up slightly to the garage and there is a lip of about an inch at the door. I had the front tyres almost over the...

Freelander 1 Tailgate Window goes up too far when the door is open

Bumping this thread as I need a new switch for my tailgate and I don't want to have to buy the whole lock actuator. Is it possible to buy just the electrical switch that sits in the tailgate?

    Rear door window problem.

I'm delighted to report that I shut mine using the key from outside, and the window is now behaving as it should- AND - my Landy passed its MOT on Thursday!

    Rear door window problem.

I recently disconnected the battery on mine while welding the sills after it failed its MOT, and now I'm getting exactly the same problem. Wind the window up, it beeps three times then lowers it again. I thought it was the switch that tells it if the hard-top is removed that was playing up, but...

    Freelander 1 Tailgate window...another tail

I've been having a similar problem, where the window will drop down to open the door, but then will not go back up when the door is shut. When it does it, I can open the window fully with the interior switch but it will not go upwards at all. I'm pretty sure it's down to the micro switch that...

    Disabling the alarm

Thanks for all the replies. I did disconnect the battery just to make sure it stays quiet for the immediate term. It's on my drive, so parking it round the block would be a bit obvious. I don't use the car every day, more like 2 or 3 times a week. Next step will be to try locking it with the...

    Disabling the alarm

So disconnecting a battery terminal will guarantee my neighbours get an undisturbed night?

    Disabling the alarm

I hadn't thought about the insurance. What if I disconnect the battery at night for now- does the alarm have a back-up battery?

    Disabling the alarm

Then it must have a fault with the central locking, because locking the driver's door with the key doesn't lock the others. But I'm not interested in fixing the alarm, I just want to disable it.

    Disabling the alarm

I've been trying to do that, but it's got the 2-stage locking (press the fob once to open the driver's door then again to open the rest) so I've been having to lock with the fob, then unlock and lock the driver's door. I actually managed to set the alarm off while doing it today.

    Disabling the alarm

The alarm on my Freelander 1 has been going off during the night- I can't hear it from my bedroom but I'm sure it must be annoying the neighbours. I want to make sure it doesn't happen again, and I very much doubt anyone will try to steal it (it's a 2006 model) so what is the best (and easiest)...

New Freelander TD4 owner saying hi

I specifically wanted a 2-door hardtop as I had got nostalgic for my old Series 11a and wanted something with a similar body format but a few more creature comforts. Not that I ever took the roof panel off the Series as you would need an extra barn to store it!

New Freelander TD4 owner saying hi

Last year I bought this beast; I'm really pleased with it- it has done about 120k but it's very tidy and seems to have been well looked after. I had to fit a new fuel tank cradle for the MOT which I did by following the excellent guide on here. Quite a big job but it helps that I have an...
