    Starter solenoid issues

It does seem like the solenoid is knackered. Only problem I have right now is that I can't find the same part - see the images. The starter solenoid/relay i have is thicker and screwed directly to the bulkhead, and the relays that I can find online are skinnier and have the right angle bracket...

    Starter solenoid issues

Funny you should say that @Colthebrummie - I have tidied the wire up with a connector. However, after a few days of it working, even with the new workaround, the ignition is now no longer turning over the starter. I can put a screwdriver across the two terminals and start it that way but nothing...

    s3 2.25d won't turn over

So looks like the other solenoid is now the issue - workaround now in place (see new pic). However, even with the new workaround the ignition is no longer turning over the starter. I can put a screwdriver across the two terminals and start it that way but nothing with the key. The connections...

    Series 3 Clutch dead?

Hi! On my 1976 s3 2.25d, I was reversing down my drive when the gearstick popped out of reverse and I could no longer select any gear. Well, I can depress the clutch and put the stick in any of the 5 gears but it makes no difference to the car. Does that sound like the clutch itself and I...

    Starter solenoid issues

Thanks all - I have managed to get running again now. It actually turns out that the other solenoid is also knackered. Workaround in place for now (as you can see in the pic). Next question though - I can't seem to find the same solenoid - am I OK to replace it with this one...

    s3 2.25d won't turn over

Morning all, I somehow managed to burn out the starter solenoid (I think) on my 76 s3 2.25 diesel. There was lots of smoke and an electrical burning smell from that side of the bay when I reconnected the battery. I may have accidentally attached the negative terminal first.... I replaced the...

Still can't get it to turn over...

I reckon I did - I may have whacked the neg on first like a numpty. Also I think my wife had left the ignition 'on' after pulling the engine stop, so the circuit may have remained open.

Still can't get it to turn over...

Dammit - I forgot that I was starting a new post. This is relating to my 1976 s3 2.25 NA diesel.

Still can't get it to turn over...

OK - so the starter solenoid is on and reconnected, I put the exhaust manifold and vacuum pipe (I think) back and then connected the battery. Tested the battery just to be safe - all good at 12.51v - and then tried to turn it over. Nothing. Again. Not even a click. The reason why I was...

    Starter solenoid issues

I hadn’t even thought of that - good idea!! Yes - the new one has the same studs. It also has two blades for spade fittings whereas the old one only had one. Does it matter which one I plug into?

    Starter solenoid issues

Hello! I somehow managed to burn out the starter solenoid (I think) on my 76 s3 2.25 diesel. There was lots of smoke and an electrical burning smell from that side of the bay when I reconnected the battery. I relaxed the battery, cleaned all terminals and made sure that everything was off and...
