    Belt Tensioner! Urgent Help

Ok! Managed it. I unscrew the pulley beneath the 24 mm nut. Easy! An Allen key - one screw only. Then i could fix a 15 mm spanner on the nut behind the pulley with 24 mm nut. (I used a regular 15 degree angle spanner). I turned this until the 15 mm spanner stopped against the vedged belt...

    Belt Tensioner! Urgent Help

I experianced the same: The big nut (24 mm) kept rotating, and I was not able to pull the spring back with the spanner. I will try a 15 mm spanner and tighten the bolt. I read somewhere that the threads on this are made the opposite way. That might be of outmost importance... Spent 3 hours...

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

Thanks for interesting inputs! I’m pretty sure that it is gear oil leaking - not diesel, but then again - it could be both! Will have a good look before I pull everything apart.

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

But then it would be a diesel leak - not a gear oil leak - right?

    Oil leak

It would be good with an explaination on this one... Have the same symptoms myself. But the oil leaking from my car is pretty greasy - so its not fuel. So.. was it a fuel leak?

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

OK... been doing som studying. Found this in an old post. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/oil-leak.254606/page-2 "the drip from the IRD and running down to the gearbox low point was in fact - the common rail switch. With the acoustic cover off the leak is visually undetectable - nothing...

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

Could it be this one? https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/133340/0/driving_pinion_oil_seal_td4_freelander_1 Or is this on the shaft that goes out to the front wheel?

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

A bit stiff allright, but i browswed arounf - and it looks like a Rover model uses the same unit. And it seems to be a bit cheaper. Part number is the same, and page says it fits certain freelanders. More than half the price.

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

Thanks again. I do not think it ever was overfilled. But after twisting my brain, with good help from this forum, i have decided to take the box out. Will write a list of parts and tools needed. (Tips and hints appreciated). Anyone know if gear box can be lifted out from above?

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

Thanks for theories. I have not identified the leak source yet. I still suspect it is gear oil though. But looking at the box in profile (image below from internet) - the input shaft is in centre, right? And as i know this is the only gasket holding gear oil in this compartment, or am i wrong...

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

Maybe to check the gear box oil level. If i try to top it up - until it flows over, i would get an idea of it - or am i lost?

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

Hi - thanks for feedback. I suspect this is gear oil, as the engine oil appears darker in colour. Clutch works well. Will continue to check.

FL1 TD4 manual 2005 gear oil leak problem

I took of the tray beneath the engine. Here i could see oil dripping when engine was running. Seem like it's coming through the crack between gearbox and housing on the right (see image and video). Any ideas where to go from here?
