I've got an update of sorts... Since my last post I've fitted a new VDO fuel pump, filter and filter head ( so the bleed valve and one way valve are new). The bleed valve turned out to be fitted in the wrong union so I've put it in the right one now and eventually got it up and running again...

Well finally some good news... After charging the battery again after this morning's attempt after swapping the bleed valve thanks to James' suggestion, I tried again this evening. I ran through the purge cycle 7 times (the prescribed 6 plus one for luck...), left it while I had my tea and went...

Yeah, sorry should have mentioned that I also checked the one way valve. Of the two unions facing the front of the truck, it's the one nearest the chassis. This is the same position as the one in the old filter head so that should be ok. Still no start though :(

I've been out this morning and checked the location of the air bleed valve... You were right to be suspicious James, it was fitted to the union nearest the chassis (low pressure feed), not the outer one where it should be! I've fitted the air bleed into the correct union and run through the...

I assumed they managed to put them in the right way round when the unit left the factory but I guess I should have checked! I'll have a look tomorrow to make sure.

It's a brand new OEM filter head, so it will have a new bleed valve and non-return valve. It's not firing at all. Just cranking over and over, not a sign of it even trying to catch...

Ah-ha, that's useful, thanks for including the pic. I must get myself a full copy of the workshop manual... What is perhaps a bit odd is that my 110 (ex utilities hardtop) has the three earth posts seen in that picture, but they are all capped off with plastic caps and there are no earth...

Many thanks for the reply Mystery. I'm pretty sure it's the correct relay fitted. It was an OEM yellow Ford one, which I've changed for a pattern replacement with the same spec. The wires that get hottest are the bigger white and purple ones. Both the relay and relay holder had brown scorch...

So where does the fuel pump earth go to? I want know now out of curiosity, whether that's the issue or not. I assume it's somewhere on the rear chassis but I can't see it.

The first pic shows the green pipes connecting into the black pipe. The second one shows the other end of the black pipe (blocked with a bolt). I've pulled it back round to the right hand side of the engine because there are more things to hold it out of the way than on the left side...
