Thinking of Buying 2003-2009 Diesel Range Rover

Either stick with the P38 or aim for a later L322 with the 3.6. £5.5k will get you a very nice P38 or a ropey L322

Seen a 2003 registered a while back but the build date put it back to 2001.

    P38 recommendations for outdoor cover?

Covers tend to do more harm than good. The wind can cause them to rub and as a result the top coat can go dull. They trap dirt and moisture too. Better off buying one of those car tents or just leave it under a car port.

    Freelander 1 1.8 K Timing Belt

Worth dropping the engine out, doing the belt and clutch all at once. It's far quicker than you think

Am I being daft getting a freelander?

We already knew about the issues associated with Freelanders before buying one. The one we bought had a recent set of tyres all round along with receipts for a recent VCU that masked the problem initially but over time the issues surfaced. By this time the damage had been done to the IRD. Funny...

Am I being daft getting a freelander?

Can't comment on the disco's as i've not owned one upto now. Always had a hankering for a 3DR at some point.

Am I being daft getting a freelander?

Personal experience. We ran a freelander a few years ago in between Rav4's, turns out the previous owner didn't like changing the tyres all at the same time. VC seized and took the IRD with out about 6 months after we got it. So we went back to another MK2 Rav4 2.0 and its been absolutely...

Am I being daft getting a freelander?

We did and never looked back. Had two MK2's and they've been faultless.

Am I being daft getting a freelander?

Personally? Buy a Rav4 and don't look back.

    p38 v's disco2

P38's take a little more love and attention than a D2 but have a far smoother drive as a result, especially if still on air. Regarding the P38, the diesel is a little slow especially in auto form but is a totally different horse with the manual box. They respond well to an End Tuning chip and a...

    P38A Bolt part number please

I've been through a few sets as it is and they've all had the same stampings on. Like the genuine halfshaft seals for my P38 are the same as the allmakes versions.

    P38A Bolt part number please

Doesn’t matter who they’re sold by. They’re all Atlas 12.9 grade. LR and Britpart were supplied by the same company.

P38A Duchess is in the garage!

It’s the best way. Keeps things contained in all one area and makes for a decent build thread.

Just for info - R380 gearbox issue solved with ATF

R380 is just a modernised version of the LT77. The LT77 used to run on ATF so its to be expected that the R380 will run better on the same stuff. I had similar issues with my R380 whilst running MTF94, yet when I switched to ATF the box ran far better.

    P38A Which new shocks?

I run the same Britpart kit on my 2.5 and it gives a lovely ride. Think it was around £72 for the full kit with new nuts.
