Defender is uncontrollable when driving through puddles / standing water

Hi Marc, I would say this is standard for these you just HAVE to slow down... The power steering is not as powerful as it is on modern cars, the lack of any stability control system doesn't help and you're driving on tyres made for grabbing loose surfaces over dispersing water (tyres act like a...

    Engine swap, what to do?

You could put an M50 B25 or B20 in it... Straight six naturally aspirated and bomb proof also of the same sort of year (early to mid 90's)... Seems fitting. I'm pretty sure it fits quite well. Not done one my self though I must say

    R380 gearbox - what oil

    I own an 88 LR90 with a 300tdi, R380 and LT230 For the R380 I use MVMTF 75W80 and I've been complimented on how smooth my box changes a few times by a guy that runs an 03REG 110 td5 and a guy that runs a 15REG 110 puma!! So I guess there's something going on there. In the LT230 I use EP80W90 GL4...

    overheat

Can you get different expansion tank caps for this engine?? If it has the wrong cap then it won't relieve the coolant system at the right pressure which might cause the overheating under load??

    Newbie, needing some pointers

Hey, I completely get what you mean about wanting a 90... They're iconic and even though it may not make the most sense, the fact is you want one. So take a look at something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193444248745 It's a 200tdi (in my opinion you'd be better off with a 300tdi but...

    Stainless or zinc coated bolts?

Hi, from what little I know about dissimilar metal corrosion, stainless fixings are a dangerous choice for the humble steel/ally defenders. SS A2 or A4 usually has the higher potential over the substrate material and in the case of the defender, it definitely does which will cause the substrate...

    Betty's Big Comeback

So the trouble I had applying the raptor to the bed was the size of the compressor (24L diy jobby) which had to keep charging up to be able to spray the heavy paint. 2 full coats with a day inbetween (work gets in the way of everything) and we're there, a fairly even solid coat

    Betty's Big Comeback

Indeed it is etch primer (2.5L of the stuff) then I have, high build for the scratches, a regular grey primer which I've tested with the colour paint so I know it won't react, 7.5L of colour (secret type of paint I won't be revealing until I've seen that it works) and 5L of thinners for dilution...

    Betty's Big Comeback

So it begins, Betty and I took a tumble last year and although I recovered in a few days she is still getting back on her, well, wheels. I'll be posting updates on this project and probably asking for a few pointers. I'm repairing her on a budget and in time for the spring, luckily I don't mind...

    Hello from Betty & Myself

I think it was dyneema, but you're still right... I was in the wrong place entirely. I learnt A LOT that day especially regarding safety. I nearly killed myself but worse still, I nearly took my brother with me

    Hello from Betty & Myself

Funny you should say that... when it was pulled over the trolley jack (unsecured in the back) came over the bulk head past where my friends head would have been and punched a dent in the door so I'm glad it didn't... here's the video:

    Hello from Betty & Myself

Hi All, I'm new to LANDYZONE and forums in general actually. I own a 1988 Land Rover 90 fitted with a 300TDi & R380 conversion (courtesy of an early Disco I think and the previous owner). We recently rolled down a hill sideways so we're a bit worse for wear but making a great recovery on both...
