127 Rapier FFR unfinished project for sale

Thanks Bob, including for the good information you provided a few years back. I did approach Foleys sometime ago, but they were not interested in buying it back then, but that was before Defender prices went stratospheric!

That's one of the upsides of mega wealth, do they pay poor people to go around dinging them to gain that authentic look?

I should mention that these FFRs were fitted with a winch as standard. I bought this minus the winch and bumper, which I suspect may be on an off roading LZ members vehicle! I do have a replacement winch, but it is not the OE make. I have yet to buy the bumper. 5 posts to go!

That last comment of mine failed to get the banter flowing as I believed it would (apart from the countdown: Thanks backinblack) Also thanks to v8250 for the FB tip, I will look at that via the missus's FB account. So here's a few photos: The complete vehicle (minus wheels) is before strip down...

127 Rapier FFR unfinished project for sale

There's the rub: I don't want to sell it to some tightwad overall wearing Landy loving oik. I am aiming for one of those Barbour wearing multi vehicle owning mega rich guys that does not want his hooray henry shooting friends in his £75k 6.0L V8 Defender rebuild.

127 Rapier FFR unfinished project for sale

Advert in the wrong location, as having a senior moment in locating how to post under 'LRs for sale'.....doh I am considering selling my Defender as an incomplete project. I have lost momentum on the rebuild, and the reality is that this vehicle when completed, is unlikely to get driven by me...

    127 FFR more like FFFA

To give an update on the brake caliper gut buster: I was struggling with the idea of replacing the whole calipers. Particularly after all the effort I had put in to the cleaning and painting of the AP originals. So I simply measured the pistons and searched on the bay for seals of that size...

Good call Phil. The thought of sending those parts back to Rimmer Bros was even more daunting than rebuilding the calipers. I will preserve those O rings in silicone lubricant: 6 quid each!! I won't bore you my attempts to buy new brake pad anti rattle clips!

I just want to share with you my experience with replacing front brake caliper pistons and seals. In a nutshell if you face needing this done, it looks like new calipers are the way forward. Certainly that is what the mechanic at PA Blanchard (ex military LR specialist) does. And I can see...

    brake piston removal

Bit late for original post, but this may help others. I had the same issue: how to remove pistons from calipers off the vehicle. On buying new pads at my local LR spares supplier, I asked if they did a removal tool: No. They suggested using compressed air. But once you get the first piston...

Does the rain come down the bulkhead into the engine bay? That would account for the rust on the pedal boxes! Re noise transfer: bring that wonderful V8 sound in. Have you seen the Electric Classics conversion of the Defender to batteries? There is a hell of a lot of transmission noise! I reckon...

Thanks for looking, the gasket explanation sounds valid, I did consider ordering a new gasket, as I saw them listed at Rimmers (I am not certain whether there was a previous one fitted, but I cannot find one) but really could see no purpose to one.

Yes, 10 are of the same length, with 2 longer. I thought perhaps they held a bracket above the clutch pedal to mount the return spring to (hence I fitted them in the top two holes) . But I found a drawing showing that spring attached to the right hand bolt above. Those bolts are pretty unique...

Spot on Bob: Tecalemit 3 way valve for returning fuel to the tank that is supplying. I ran it on LPG for the short time I drove it, I am not certain why they did that with the hose as the return pipework is all intact. Whilst I have your attention Bob, does yours have two longer bolts for...

Phil, you were correct: it was still attached to the speedo! Here's a bit more fun. Do you know what this is? I do but the mystery is the way the hose is connected. NB My 127 (big beast is first first clue) and had an LPG system fitted (2nd clue) Answers on a post card

    Advice on brake springs

Success! Slight variation on your method: I connected the lower spring to both shoes, and the upper spring to one shoe, offer all up to the backing plate, then held the shoe with the attached upper spring outboard of the wheel cylinder against that cylinder with a wedge against the back of the...
