CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

That's interesting that you believe diesel pumps are the same pressure, if that's the case then the wiring plug is a small thing to rewire direct, permanent joint wire to wire. Not likely to want to change again and even if it needs to be it's not a problem

CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

Thanks for your further comment, and apologies for the typos in my response earlier! Will try vin search, I expect there are equivalents. I have found early Disco 1 spares can be inflated over later equivalents which are the same! H

CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

I was told by RImmer Bros today that that on is for Efi version and therfore has too much pressure. I dint quite follow that as tge carb version has a return pipe so should simply return surplus fuel. But perhaps the extra pressure overcomes the float valve and floods tge carbs??

CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

Thank you very much for responding, as far as I can find out today the correct pump for carburettor D1 V8, PRC 7128, is no longer available. So I am thinking your solution of an in-line pump may be the only route but I'm interested in how it works? Do you leave the original pump and fuel gauge...

CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

Thank you! I just googled the part number you gave, 7128, and on the official Jaguar Land Rover site it does come up as the correct one for the V8 – thanks again!

CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

Thankyou for your response. Do you know if the pump used on a fuel injection Discovery 1 and carb version are the same in terms of fuel delivery and return pipe?

CORRECT FUEL PUMP FOR DISCO 1, 3.5 ON CARBS - CONFUSING!!??

I have the fuel tank out on my 1990 Discovery 1 3.5 carburettor model to get at chassis for welding. The fuel pump on the top at least looks pretty bad and the connections were difficult to release. I’m thinking to change the pump while it’s out there is a confusing picture on possible...

D1 CENTRAL LOCKING ACTUATORS - MYSTERY??

Thanks for your comment, it was first registered March 1990 meaning it was probably built in 1989, it's a genuine V8 – checked that through the VIN number. Maybe it some sort of aftermarket mod that's been fitted during its life, I'm fairly certain it had an aftermarket alarm fitted at some...

D1 CENTRAL LOCKING ACTUATORS - MYSTERY??

I have an early Discovery 1, three door, which came with keys only, no remote, and I assumed it did not have central locking as when you turn the key in the drivers door nothing happened to indicate it had central locking at all. It is only when I had to remove the rear tailgate door card that I...

    GUNSON GASTESTER - ANY GOOD?

Anyone used a Gunson Gastester to set up carbs ready for MOT? They seem really cheap compared to the 'professional' testers so I wonder if they are sufficiently accurate to get emissions, particularly on early carb V8's, below the required MOT levels?

    REPLACE VALVE SPRINGS OR NOT??

Thank you, much appreciated. I did find the spec for the valve dimensions, 1.9 inches unloaded, and they are all at that length so that is excellent. Good recommendation on the camshaft, I will take a look. I did buy valve stem oil seals, only required on the inlet valves. They are slightly odd...

    REPLACE VALVE SPRINGS OR NOT??

I would appreciate your thoughts – I am rebuilding the cylinder heads on a 3.5 v8, carb version, from a Discovery 1 which has 75,000 miles on the clock which I believe to be genuine. I am going to re-grind the valves which all look good and no play in the valve guides. Question - is it necessary...

    SNEAKY V8 COOLANT LEAK SOURCE!!

I posted previously about my Discovery 1V8, carb model, losing coolant and the difficulty of finding the problem. In a previous post I mentioned noticing that one of the cylinders had exceptionally clean spark plug compared to the others which were all sooted up. This has led me to remove the...

DISCO V8 NO HEAD GASKET FITTED!!??

Thanks for getting back to me. No, I just checked and ran a razor blade scraper around the head and the block there is nothing evident. There are marks indicating there was a head gasket in there at some point but definitely not now. I also doublechecked it hadnt fallen away when I removed the...

DISCO V8 NO HEAD GASKET FITTED!!??

I posted earlier about the suspected head gasket leak with coolant getting into two of the cylinders as the spark plugs in those two were washed clean as opposed to the other cylinders which are sooty. So I have gone through the process today removing the right hand cylinder head (it’s a V8...

    3.5 V8 COOLANT LOSS - THOUGHTS PLEASE!

I have a D1 on carbs which has been losing coolant water and I can’t work it out! There are no obvious leaks anywhere and as it is not a regular use vehicle it’s hard to determine how much coolant is going though I am guessing around quarter to half a litre on a 50 to 60 mile trip. There are no...
