Rear bench seat (SWB) with a plywood base?

Stumbling with the Tec today. So the seat appears standard Land Rover and not bespoke. I am trying to match it for the other side, there are no back panels. It know the front ones come with a base bur it seems some of the rear do as well. Thanks for the input folks.

Rear bench seat (SWB) with a plywood base?

Please could someone enlighten me from which series model the rear bench seat comes from which have a Plywood base and is not just the cushion siting on on the frame. I need to fit one to match the only one fitted. My land rover series 2 is not standard and has no seat frame, but is fitted with...

Series 3 How Does the Grease / oil stay in the Hub

Yes those pre-cost cutting days were good. I suspect I may have to convert to the old ones at some point although you can fit a sleeve which looks promising.

Series 3 How Does the Grease / oil stay in the Hub

Defiantly a precautionary tale for anyone replacing their wheel bearings, Do NOT go cheap. The heat built up caused some small marks on the stub axel as well as melting the seal to the land, bear in mind this in the late 84 stub axel now rare as unicorn poo. Luckily the burnt rubber came off...

Series 3 How Does the Grease / oil stay in the Hub

Hi, I pressed the bearings into the grease (Palm of hand) until it started coming out from the top and pushing any old stuff out. I thought this was the way to go. Interesting that I may have been over packing them. thank you for your advice.

Series 3 How Does the Grease / oil stay in the Hub

A quick update; I dismantled the other wheel assembly yesterday and found the bearings perfectly intact, well greased and running smoothly. These were Timkin, whist the other one that broke down was unbranded. After further forensic investigation it appears that the seized bearing produced an...

Series 3 How Does the Grease / oil stay in the Hub

Hi, that's what I figured. I think maybe the larger "void" off the FWH allows for a greater spread, it also is another place for water to get in. I had a Land Rover manual and the guy put 1 shot into the middle space after greasing the bearings, maybe that was not such a good idea. An...

Series 3 How Does the Grease / oil stay in the Hub

Ok, so I rebuilt the front end of my late 84 series 3, I packed the 2 (same sized) hub bearings with grease and put some liquid One Shot in for good measure. Took the old tub out on a off road course 6 month later that had a wading section. A year on brakes are sounding a bit odd and I find...

Series 3 Replaced all the swivels and bearings now the steering is worse a little help please.

A long overdue update for anyone reading this post. I eventually fitted the rebuilt steering box, (not to difficult a job) With the new box in the steering was much, much better, I finally took the original box apart and found it needed new bearings. This seemed to be the biggest cause for...

Brake drum removal bolt size 5/16 NC or 3/8 NC

Thanks, I was so focused on the brake pipes I forgot about the flexi on which is an obvious one to clamp. I am going to replace everything and start again right the way back to the PDWA .

Brake drum removal bolt size 5/16 NC or 3/8 NC

Thanks, that's good advice I forgot that the pipe would need to be disconnected. I will try and get in there and push bake the pads. I have ordered new drums as they are going to past it so nothing to lose now. One thing sealing of the old pipe what is a good method. I had problems with the...

Brake drum removal bolt size 5/16 NC or 3/8 NC

I tried the 3/8 Whitworth bolt but the tread was to fine hence the confusion.

Brake drum removal bolt size 5/16 NC or 3/8 NC

So here is the problem, A late 1984 series 3 SWB, I can remove the rear brake drums by about 1 cm and then they catch solidly although spring back slightly, they both spin although one was binding badly and the MOT had them down to 10% efficiency. I suspect the problem is they have worn a grove...

Steering relay lower retainer is wider that the body is this right?

Thanks for the pics, I hadn't realised it might need such a large amount of shimming. I am tempted to file the relay end plate down to match the body it would then at least make shimming easier and also give a fighting chance of getting the flange to be a relatively close fit.

Steering relay lower retainer is wider that the body is this right?

Hi, the trouble is that, that one is smaller to fit the Patten stuff on the market which is a few mm smaller. There is a 65.6mm version but the very lower part of my relay is 67.5 so it wont fit over it.

Steering relay lower retainer is wider that the body is this right?

I just snapped up an old stock steering relay which now has a pull of 19lb instead of 8lb so, on it will go (yes the crappy steering saga still continues). The question is why is the lover retainer wider 67.5mm than the body at 65.5mm. Surly the Flange plate to hold it steady will be an improper...

Should my front axle have any lateral movement?

The plan is to drop the spring and then extract the bush and measure it. I have found a site with different sized bushes so hopefully will get a match. Plan B is to just buy a complete new front set with the proper U bolts and start again without the hassle.
