just to give a final update. It went in for a service and had the faults read whilst running which said intermittent fault with the fuel quantity actuator. The pump was changed for another new one and its now perfect. Thanks for all the help.

So I assume from what you are saying that the wiper and pot are in the top housing of the FIP. So you are saying that it is still an electrical problem with the FIP???

Hi, Update on the situation, the pump was taken off by the diesel shop who supplied the new pump and sent back to the supplier. It was duly sent back the next day and refitted and we still have the same problem with the engine revs dropping suddenly when put in to gear or the aircon compressor...

Obviously I can only say what I've been told but I think they said the pump came refurbed by and/from Bosch, and that the electrical components for these pumps were now no longer produced by Bosch, so I assumed that it had 2nd hand electronics anyway. Is this right do you think ? But at least it...

Just as an update the diesel shop I use has offered to remove the pump and send it back. (its the second time the pump has been off as the stop solenoid malfunctioned after about 100 miles and it was sent back then). Will update after the work has been done.

I'll see if it has cruise and try it. Not sure if it does have cruise control.

My car has 148k on the clock and starts like a goodun. Its the stalling that's my problem at the moment. Only time starting was an issue was when the leak offs cracked and let the fuel run back and the lift pump went sticky.

Ok no worries, do they have hot start devices in the fuel pumps sometimes then ? I wouldn't know where to look for it.

Hi thanks, its idling at 800 i've just checked. The needle drops about 200 revs for a split second when it doesn't stall if not a bit more, quite sharply as well. The other one we have the needle only twitches really, hardly noticeable. Looks like the pump will have to come off!

T Thanks Grrrrrr. I will have to check the idle speed. If I was very good is the pump repairable, im not, but just wondering if it was possible as I love messing with diesels.:)

It's exactly the same. Have left it off for quite a while to see but to no avail.
