Thanks mate, its all going to be dismantled down to chassis level and I have a spare Rover axle to go in whilst I refurb this one. I did notice that and a mate of mine had to weld some patches on his and told me the diff covers are as thin as bacofoil! Thanks for pointing this out though. the...

Series 2 A question of axles

Thanks for that guys. I have been doing a basic inspection of the old lady getting underneath taking hundreds of pics as its easier to look at repairs needed in the comfort of my arm chair on a ipad so I can zoom in, rather than on my back in the yard! I HAVE A SALISBURY!! Nice I have made a...

Series 2 A question of axles

Hi Folk The Defenders look like they have a wider track than the early series cars i.e. LONGER axles? Is this correct as they had to add that plastic mudguard to cover the wheels. Did they change the ratios or leave them the same as S2? I have tried to find a definitive answer online about this...

Series 2 What 'original' Landy Engine can I use?

Thanks for the replies folks. In the past I was a 'Rover Man' owning no less than 7 Rover V8's and the last one I scrapped but kept the engine. I made a transport case for it on castors as we had to move house, sadly the ex made me sell it (thats why shes the EX!) as it was sat around for...

    ‘Historic Vehicle’ confusion

When my logbook arrived recently I note it is already registered as a ‘Historic Vehicle’. As it is exempt from BOTH as the previous owner explained what...

Series 2 What 'original' Landy Engine can I use?

Series 2 What 'original' Landy Engine can I use?

Many thanks for your replies chaps, copious amounts of ale will be bought at the first meeting I attend, no driving will be allowed only serious quaffing of the fruit of the hop! The car is already an ‘Historic Vehicle’ so I am good there, the donk starts lovely even in frost, smokes like the...

Series 2 What 'original' Landy Engine can I use?

Hi Muddy Peeps My newly acquired S2A has had a Land cruiser 3 litre engine fitted 'professionally' when it was used by the council. But actually they made a right mess of it, including moving the radiator panel forward (no idea why as there is a HUGE gap behind it) and wires hanging everywhere...

ear! wots all dem levers for?

yes but I thought overdrive is just 5th gear on the normal lever? I wouldnt want to be using diff lock on normal roads :(

ear! wots all dem levers for?

The ORANGE arrow is the lever Im unsure about. The RED AND YELLOW are the normal 4 wheel engage and HI/LO ratio the first pic (not my car, red dash ) shows it better

ear! wots all dem levers for?

The LWB series 2a I have just bought has an EXTRA black knob! I am pretty certain it is DIFF LOCK but can anyone confirm this please? I used Landys extensively in the forces and vaguely remember this black lever? Also can anyone point me to new gear lever knobs for the overdrive gearbox please...
