Mystery Oil Leak - advice on where to look please!

Good news: I've changed the rocker cover gasket which appears to have sealed well. I had to buy a pack of 10 but at only £1 each I can't complain. Really good news: I got a lot less oily than when I changed the sump gasket and didn't need to wash my hair in Swarfega. Bad news: When I...

Mystery Oil Leak - advice on where to look please!

Thanks, I take it you pour the dye into the oil then look for new traces of oil? I have the same issue with oil everywhere! I am hoping it's not the head gasket on mine as that'll be back to the garage.

Mystery Oil Leak - advice on where to look please!

Thanks Phil, I did clean the engine last time and the oil appeared to be leaking from the sump straight away. Looking back I wonder if the oil was coming from the rocker and the oil that fell on the floor was oil that was already part way down the engine. I will clean around the the top again...

Mystery Oil Leak - advice on where to look please!

I recently got a 19J fitted to my 1984 HiCap to replace the 2.5NA. The engine is running really well but I get a large puddle of oil on the floor in minutes after being parked up. I am pretty sure the amount of oil will make it fail an MoT and more importantly, my poor Land Rover has been banned...

Your thoughts on the 2.5td 19j engine??

Thanks for the info guys! The 19j gets fitted next week, we'll see how it settles in, if it's a disaster then we'll take it out and look for alternatives. If it's still running well in a couple of months then we'll look at the cam belt, injectors etc and give it a good service. I can live with...

Your thoughts on the 2.5td 19j engine??

I thought the rad was the same on the 2.5 Turbo? I think my mechanic meant the 2.5 TD dropped in relatively easily compared to trying to get a 200Tdi in there. The 2.5TD is not fitted to a vehicle but it's believed to be in working condition. He's said if it's a no go he won't charge me, which...

Your thoughts on the 2.5td 19j engine??

I just found this rather old article on here, very interesting as I am considering an "upgrade" to the 19J! I currently have the 2.5NA which has a very leaky fuel rack. It's also very slow, I can barely get 60mph on the flat and I drop to 40mph on even slight hills. I do on the other hand get...

No, I’m really curious of his thought process unless I’m missing something here. To me it just sounded like a scam from the start. I don’t understand why he’d pay the remainder especially when they guy was being so pushy. Any reasonable dealer should be happy once they have the deposit, the fact...

How come you didn't test drive it before you bought it? I'd not dream of buying a car without having a test drive and thoroughly checking over it, you could be buying anything! When I bought my 110 I got a friend to go with me to check it out and make sure it was sound.

That’s a stunning vehicle! What Diesel engine is in it?

Land Rover Defender 90 drivers seat position

Does she have power steering? I occasionally clout my arm on the window sill if I am turning hard, it hits the funny bone and bloody hurts! This is probably caused by the fact I don't have power steering as I have one of the first 110s. I am told that back then PAS was considered an optional...

I doubt it! “Monty” was my parents long gone Shihtzu and “Mr Bigglesworth” was Dr Evils cat in Austin Powers :)

The Leather seats came from another HiCap, the owner didn’t want them. I’m not sure about the tyre size, I’ll find out for you :) I was going to put BFGs on as I’ve had them on previous 4x4s (1989 Trooper) but I am not so sure now as I quite like the old farm vehicle look. I think BFGs with...

I’ve got a tracker and one of the newer designed Stop Locks. We also have CCTV all round the house :)

Indeed, as well as the cool retro thing there’s not much to go wrong with the old handles and windows. That said, when I first got him I had to spend hours with a pack of economy toothbrushes scooping out all the foliage from the window runners!

[/ATTACH] Thanks for letting me join your site! Here’s my Landy, he's named Ivor after Ivor the Engine! I originally wanted a late Series 3 as I preferred the old lift up door handles and sliding windows but a few friends recommended I went for the newer 110. It wasn't until I saw Ivor on...

    110 Defender hi-cap 1984

Hi, I have a very similar story for my 1984 110 HiCap which also came from a farm! The guy I bought my Landy from was a trader who part exchanged it from a farmer for a newer Land Rover. The trader told me when they saw my 110 it was covered in algae and moss and looked a sorry mess having not...
