hi again, i have managed to get the lock mech off to change the plastic cam and kit, but it has been bodged before quite badly, hacked about, and the only option i think is to obtain a another handle and mechanism. i should be able to get one fairly locally (30 miles from me) (secondhand)...

dan, thank you for your message. i have the door card taken off. whereabouts are the linkages disconnected? i can see 2 of them attached to the mechanism, but they are really tight and there is no play in the unit to allow me to disconnect or unlock them..
