Series 3 Gearbox Breather Leaks a Lot

Ahhhhh! Yes it will be a military gearbox That would explain why I was struggling to find replacement parts. Yes, filling from under is a pain. In the short term, I can seal it up and it'll have no negative impact. Thanks - a really useful piece of information - much appreciated.

Series 3 Gearbox Breather Leaks a Lot

Hi, The gearbox breather (see attachment) on the top of the gearbox on my S3 leaks a lot. I thought it was the selector shafts, but I cleaned it all and its the breather. Are they replaceable/repairable or an I better of sealing it up and installing a remote breather? Thanks, GDL.

    Series Gearbox Selector Seals Leaking

On no - it is dripping fairy well. The gearbox looks like new as the oil has cleaned it so well. I assumed it was the selectors seals, but I didn't think of the detent ball seals. I'll pull the middle seat and have a look.

    Series Gearbox Selector Seals Leaking

Hi, I rebuilt the S3 box a while back. I replaced the selector for seals in the process. When I'd finished, the gearchange was really tight (way too tight), but no leak. Now the gear change is normal, but it leaks a *lot* from those seals. I might see if I can get hold of some genuine ones...

Source of Wiring Diagrams for non Landrover

I didn't know you could get them from dealers - brilliant! That does seem some what obvious when you think about it...

Source of Wiring Diagrams for non Landrover

Yeah. I have done with varied success. People are great and you can often get something half useful from forums or Google. But with single pages here and there you always find that you need more. And sometimes you don't know what you need until you trawl through the whole diagram.

Source of Wiring Diagrams for non Landrover

Hi, I'm looking for a source of wiring diagrams for my Golf and Galaxy. The Green Landrover manual has every circuit in it, but increasingly Haynes manuals miss out large parts of the loom for modern cars. I'm OK with paying for the information, but most of the technical data sites are about...

For Sale Various 24v FFR Military Parts from S3

Hi, I've got these 24v parts up on eBay at the moment: Ammeter/Shunt box Indicator relay Radio shunt box 24v multi pin cable Dyno/Generator Starter Motor They are all of my landrover and they worked well on it. Where I can, I've also bench tested them. Give me a shout if you have any...

    24v FFR system worth anything?

OK cheers. Never had much joy with ebay, so I'll try all of that and see where we get to!

    24v FFR system worth anything?

Fair enough, I'll give it a go. Would you split it into different parts or do it as a job lot?

    24v FFR system worth anything?

I have to confess I was one of the ones who pulled out all the 24v stuff - and I do sort of regret it now, but with the engine swap and all, it's not going back in. My issue with ebay was that I reckoned not too many people would be looking at this kind of stuff. But probably the best idea...

    24v FFR system worth anything?

Hi, I've got a full charging system for a 24v FFR S3. All worked when it came off, except the ammeter on the shunt box. Shunt box, generator, double battery tray/box and the wires that connect it all. Any idea if it's worth anything? I was going to weight it in, but seems a shame. There are...

    Classic/historic status

Still a bit of a gray area - the 300tdi clearly is related to the 2.25 engines - well, at least the majority of the bell housing bolts line up!

    Classic/historic status

Ahh - got it. Thanks. If I've replaced the engine with a de-turboed 300tdi. On the face of it, that would appear to invalidate my claim to historic status however, there is a section which says that acceptable changes include: axles and running gear have been changed to improve efficiency...

    Classic/historic status

So the rolling age for being tax exempt has gone? So my 1984 will never be tax exempt.... Did the rules on that change recently? I was sure last time I checked I was only a few years off.

    Series 2 with 300 tdi?

On all the low end conversions I see, they keep the original gearbox. For a 4x4, I get the need to retain a transfer box, but the gearbox is usually the source of many of the issues I have, particularly spreading oil everywhere. There is no need for it as the motor has enough torque across...

Cheap P38 or cheap Disco 2

Got a series so figure a 90 is a bit too same. Finding rot free discos in the cheap range is hard!

    Series 2 with 300 tdi?

Mine has the Salisbury diff but I think the gearbox would be the issue. I much prefer the way it drives now. Though it could do with a set of those higher ratio transfer gears for high range.

    Series 2 with 300 tdi?

I have to confess, this is something that concerns me. I live in the rural north, so less likely to be an issue, but still. I had a worn 2.25 that I was struggling to keep going. The 300tdi was essentially free. At the time it made sense (a few years ago). Truth be told, I think petrol will...
