Not at all. I am happy to be put right when I've inadvertently infringed good manners on this site. My experience of setting up a new thread to discuss how to weld went nowhere, so my expectations were low. But you've now told me how to bring such a tread to the attention of others, for that I'm...

Thanks for the advice. I shall do that. What put me off doing that was the prospect of posting into the void, with me the only follower of the thread. Apologies for invading Rusty's thread.

I have done no work on the Landrover since the lockdown started in March. The vehicle is in an open fronted shed. The wind blows in dust. The pigeons roost in the roof and crap... I don't mind those so much, what annoys the Hell out of me is someone who's kicked in the door of a nearby...

About to do some welding... I understand that underseal burns well. How far back, away from where I'm welding, should I remove it?

    What welding kit?

Thanks, that looks to be a very useful place to learn.

Thanks once again. Keep this up and I'll end up owing you a pint.

    What welding kit?

I've stripped down a large proportion of my Discovery 1 and now it's time to start putting it back together. So I'll be welding panels and patches. As a novice, I've been told that I'll need a MIG welder, and would be best using CO2/Ar gas... but what welding kit should I get? How many Amps will...

I'm just welding replacement panels into place and reinforcing the chassis where I feel it might not be all that it should, with a budget of just a few hundred quid. I'll go and set up a new thread.

Hi All... I've got to the point where I'm not ripping stuff out anymore (for the time being) and wanting to weld stuff back in. So I need a MIG welder. I've been told that as a newcomer to welding I should use CO2/Ar gas, but what spec of welder do I need? How many amps should I aspire to? Any...

Thanks for the heads up. Landrover's spot welds, in my experience, are just good enough to tear the wrong piece of metal, the one you would rather have had left intact.

"A bit tight then"? Does that mean that money is no longer a bit tight? Can I "borrow" a fiver?

How is the rear floor side panel attached to the wheel arch? Are the two just glued together?

I bought a fuel tank cradle... and it was delivered by Hermes... or so the e-mail I got said. The tracking information went further, it told me that the item had been signed for! Since I hadn't got it, that was of some concern, so I asked all the people on the lane if it had been delivered to...

The carrier plate which held my fuel tank in place is rusted to buggery. However, the part is now obsolete, and even the aftermarket suppliers have deleted it. Can anyone suggest where I can find another one?

So it should have a great big lump of rubber attached to it, then?

This strap on the underside of the chassis next to the spring... why's it there? What's it for?

That's just like hanging a house door, then. Good to know.
