    Door locks

Thanks for that, useful food for thought. If I could be sure what sort I have now, it would be easier to decide if a set of locks would be worth trying. Re. the windows, I suppose there are limits. If I can stop them opening the doors with a teaspoon, they might just walk away rather than...

    Door locks

My ex-MOD 90 with lift-handle door locks was rifled through last night, which is rather vexing. I don't know if the scrotes were after the vehicle but if they were, the disc lock and pedal cover put them off. Nothing of any value left in there overnight in any case. I was wondering about...

    LT77 stiff gearchange.

Thanks for your help all. All stripped, cleaned and reassembled and much nicer to use than it was. Also, I've found where the plastic cup is, i.e. not at all where I imagined

    LT77 stiff gearchange.

Cheers, I'll give that a shot.

    LT77 stiff gearchange.

I'm pretty sure I'm OK there. Getting a gear isn't an issue, the problem is heaving the stick over to get it in position to engage one, especially reverse. I've had Series vehicles in the past, the sticks on those were easy to flick in and out to double declutch. There's no way on earth I could...

    LT77 stiff gearchange.

Searching the forum to find a remedy for the stiff gearchange on my 1994 Defender, the usual suggestion seems to be that the plastic cup that the ball end of the lever sits in will be heavily worn. When I look at the parts diagram, however, I can't find the cup or a part number for it. Am I...

    90 hard top brackets.

Like so. Tempted to have a go at this... http://s3.amazonaws.com/hmvforum/monthly_2016_06/a.jpg.0fed6c0c82572174c1ff3fcf97b6e6ec.jpg

    90 hard top brackets.

Thanks apeers, very helpful. I'll look into getting a set of the pioneer tools, they always finish a vehicle off nicely. I had a set on my 101 years ago, including the woefully optimistic starting handle.

    90 hard top brackets.

Hello all: Can anyone suggest what the bracketry on my roof might be for? The vehicle is ex-225 Medical Regiment and I think the roof is original because it has holes for the radio aerial cables that line up the ones in the bodywork.

    Military registration plate stickers.

Sarah and Kev at Illumiarty have sorted some out for me, and I've just got round to sticking them on. It's important to waterproof the vinyl, so I've given them a couple of coats of Tamiya flat clear that I use for railway modelling. If anyone fancies following my example, Illumiarty can be...

    Military registration plate stickers.

Unless it's my fevered imagination at work, I've seen photo's of vehicles with small replicas of MOD reg. plates above their civvy ones. I quite like the idea, but STFW has failed to turn up a supplier and the forum search function seems to have gone to the pictures. Could anyone point me in the...

What have you done to your Landie today.

I've taken the spare wheel off the bonnet and chucked it in the back in the hope that the reduced weight at the front will make the steering a bit lighter. Every mickle makes a muckle and all that.

    Wolf Wheels on a 90.

It does, as it happens, I take it there are no downsides to removing it?

No bull bar, but you've made me wonder how much the steering guard that the previous owner fitted weighs.

    Wolf Wheels on a 90.

Thanks Flat, that's put my mind at rest on a few points, particularly on the subject of tyres. No point in spending a fortune on road-oriented tyres if they aren't going to make a huge difference. Parking is a big issue where I live, so it's a good job the 90 will be kept somewhere else for the...

    Wolf Wheels on a 90.

The results are in: Jacked up the front and established that there isn't any undue stiffness in the steering, I can turn it with one finger. The tyres are Michelin 4x4 - O/R 7.50 R16 C XZL Radial X, so a fairly aggressive tread pattern for road use. I haven't checked the tyre pressures yet...

Good point, thanks tottot, I'll check both shortly.

    Wolf Wheels on a 90.

Thanks ER1C, I'll check the tyre details in a bit. I've never had power steering on a Land Rover, and I've had plenty of Series vehicles, so I wasn't expecting to twirl the wheel with one finger, but this thing is ridiculous.

    Wolf Wheels on a 90.

Hello all: Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but the 'Search' function seems to be on the bugle at the moment. I've just bought an ex-MOD 90, naturally aspirated engine and no PAS. It's a nice thing and appears to be in very good nick, but I'm finding low speed manoeuvring a real...
